Jax

My name is Jax and I've been having this recurring dream in which I'm Homeward Bound (like in the movie!). In my dream, I'm lounging on a pillow in my New Family's home. Suddenly, I hear the opening of a door. My tail starts to slowly thump as I hear my guardian enter. I lazily get up & my collar tags jingle as I shake out my entire body. My toenails click along the floor as I walk toward you. And then, I see you!  My head tilts slightly down; my ears press back and my lil' tail swings as we greet each other. Fantastic!

The list of what makes me so great is too long to cover in the allotted space...but I'll give it a whirl. First and foremost, I'm easy on the eyes. Between my spotted right ear, muscular frame & big grin, I'm a real looker. At 7-years young, I've got all the annoying puppy-stuff out of my system. No chewing of your shoes and couch. No annoying jumping up on people. No looking at you cross-eyed when you say basic words like "sit".  And, not only am I housetrained, but I'm trained to sit by the door when I need to go outside & relieve myself. I love to play (with humans & other dogs), am good on a leash and I'm even a great jogging partner! While I've never lived with children, I've always been friendly with kids I've encountered. I don't have too much experience with cats so am not sure if I could live with one.

My previous owner brought me to MaxFund after he got a new job that forced him work very long hours.  He had nothing but good things to say about me and I'm appreciative that he thought to bring me to MaxFund where I can wait for my Forever Family!

The 2-legged folks say I'm about out of space in this autobiography so I hope I've caught your attention!  Are you the special human who can make my dream come true?  If so, I'm here waiting...and dreaming of the day when I'll truly be Homeward Bound.

Meeva

Howdy!  I'm Meeva, a 2 year-old, 49-lb cattle dog/husky mix who was brought to MaxFund from a high-kill shelter when my time was "up".  Whew doggie, that was a close one!  I was told that I'm supposed to advertise for myself in this little write-up so here goes...

Let me tell you what separates me from the rest of this pack here.  First off, I'm housetrained.  No annoying piddle puddles around the house.  I'm good with all well-behaved dogs.  I'm good with cats.  Did you hear that?!?  Good with *cats*!!  I enjoy car rides and would love to accompany you around town.  I'm playful when you want and will relax when you want.  I'm an attractive gal (one blue eye, one brown; beautiful soft, brown fur with white paws that look like socks; and a glorious smile that will brighten any day!)  I'm affectionate and love to give out kisses.  And, while there have been no witnessed encounters with wee lil' humans, I sure think I could live just fine with them too (but we'll have to meet first to convince the MaxFund folks!)

I'm one special girl and oh-so deserving of a great home!  Now I'm ready to learn about *you*!  Might you be the special human that's a perfect fit for me??

Daina

3/12/11: Daina was adopted today!

Hi-ya!  My name is Daina and I'm a 1 year-old, 32-lb Brittany Spaniel mix.  I'm a bouncy, loving adolescent pup who is searching for a very special person (or people!) who can show me the love and affection of a *real* family!  I was brought to MaxFund by some good samaritans who took me into their home while they searched for my owners.  When no one claimed me, they were nice enough to bring me to MaxFund where I'm safe until I find my Forever Family.  Being a stray & all, not too much is known about my first year of life.  I can tell you that during my few days in the good samaritans' home, I never pottied in the house.  I slept in a room all by myself and did just fine, but I enjoyed the company of people very, very much.  I also loved car rides and chasing balls and toys...although I haven't quite figured out what you mean by "fetch"!  You'll love watching me pounce after tennis balls and trap the ball in between my front paws before putting it in my mouth and running away.  So fun!

The folks at MaxFund think I may have been mistreated in my previous life as I can be a little shy and fearful when I first meet you.  But, I'm just a bouncy bundle of joy when I see that you're a nice human!  Of course, like all adolescents, I'll need a family with the patience and time to work with me on training and obedience.  I seem to get along with other dogs at MaxFund just fine, but I haven't had too much exposure to cats or children so am not sure how I'd like to have them around.

After a hard day of playing and pouncing, I look forward to cuddling up with my Family and relaxing.  Maybe you can even rub that special spot behind my ears?!?

Wombat

5/31/11: Wombat was adopted!!

So, I'm a little partial to dalmatians (being the mom of 2 dals currently).  This lab/dal mix tugs at my heart strings as she's the same age as my lil' Circe.  Hope she gets to go Home soon!

Wombat, eh? Hmmm...I'm just as confused about my name as you are! After all, wombats are Australian marsupials that are short-legged with a very short-tail. I have none of these features. Let's think about this together. Wombats are nocturnal (nope...that's not it), herbivores (nope...that's not it) & have very LARGE BRAINS! Ah-hah! There we go....we got that mystery solved!

I'm a 6-year-young, 55-lb labrador/dalmatian mix. I was brought to MaxFund as my previous owner thought he was too busy to take good care of me. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to partake in the selection of my new family. You see, due to my LARGE BRAIN, the friendly MaxFund folks are letting me participate in the interview process. What might I be searching for in a new Family? Well, size isn't as important as quality. I like all people & have even enjoyed living with babies & toddlers. I'm also ok living with cats. Other dogs, however, aren't my favorite companions so I'd appreciate not having any of them around.

Another prerequisite for my family is that they must be entertained by my playful antics. I love carrying balls, sticks or toys on our entire walk. Of course, I'll drop them if you offer me a treat - but will be sure to snatch them right up again as soon as I gulp down my treat. So, I'll need you to be sure to laugh at my silliness!! Don't worry, I know (due to my LARGE BRAIN) that laughter is the best medicine.

My favorite passtimes include swimming, going on walks (I'm very polite on a leash) and giving/receiving affection.  Sounds about perfect, doesn't it? Then, let's meet and get our life-show on the road!

Dusty

3/9/11 Update: Dusty was adopted!!

Dusty bio:

Whoever says "Chivalry is dead" hasn't met me, Dusty.  I'm a 7 1/2 year-young german shephard mix who embodies chivalry today.  Gentleman such as myself are faithful and respectful, understand that strength and gentleness are not opposites, and will go to great lengths to ensure that those around him are relaxed and comfortable.  Let me be more specific...I'm a fabulous dog.

I spent my last few years living in a small apartment.  As a small apartment isn't the best home environment for a 73 lb canine, I was brought to MaxFund to find my perfect Home and Family.  I enjoy the company of other dogs, cats and all people.  Yessir, I would love living with any and all creatures...would you expect any less from such a chivalrous guy?  Of course, we all know that gentlemen are good lookin' and I won't disappoint.  I have long, soft fur, longing eyes and pointy (one's even floppy!) ears.  I'm housetrained and *excellent* on a leash.  I am a clever guy and have even figured out how to open doors that have those handle-knobs. So...I've got brains, brawn and etiquette - what more could you want in a canine companion?

If you're the kind of person who still appreciates a little chivalry in this busy world, let's get to know each other.  Sooner, rather than later, works better for me...I'm waiting!!

Mega

5/27/11: I updated Mega's bio. He's such a sweetie & I don't know why someone hasn't snatched him up and into their family!  Here's a new pic:

Mega

Definitions of Mega include "great" and "excellent". Yep, Mega's my name - don't wear it out! At 3 years-young and 105 lbs, no one ever questions where my name came from. But, really, I'm a complete lover once you get me out of this noisy big-dog room. And, by lover, I mean LOVER! I will put my head down, nuzzle it in your lap and flash you my toothy grin while you rub behind my ears. I can love & cuddle with the best of those miniature dogs! Speaking of miniature dogs, I've been very well-behaved around other dogs at MaxFund. I've even done well with cats around these parts!

As I was a stray dog upon my arrival at MaxFund, not too much is known about my past. I can tell you that I am a very happy guy and am well-behaved on a leash. The leash part is important because I'm hoping for regular exercise in my new home - couldn't we all use a little more activity in our lives!?! Although no one at MaxFund has seen me around very little kids, I sure enjoyed stumbling upon a middle school end-of-school-year BBQ recently! The kids loved petting & cuddling me - and a couple even snapped some photos!

Us American Bulldogs are smart, loyal and faithful companions. And, while I'm not typically one to toot my own horn, I'll make an exception (after all, I'm looking for a Family here)...I'm also a rather handsome guy!

I sure hope to see you 'round MaxFund soon! While I might be a tough guy to miss back in the big dog room, be sure to ask for the "great" and "excellent" MEGA!

Not too many kiddos work or volunteer at MaxFund so I can't speak about how I'd live with them - but please inquire with the staff whether they think I could live with children in your home. I'll need an owner who will be patient with me while I learn what you expect from a 4-legged family member. Us American Bulldogs are smart, loyal and faithful companions so the return on your investment will be exponential! BJ

3/9/11 Update: BJ was adopted!!

BJ bio:

Greetings everyone!  I'm "BJ" - a 1 1/2 year-young Shephard-Shiba Inu mix who is a rather talented guy! I never really thought of myself as talented until all the MaxFund folks started talking about my ability to balance on my hind two legs. I sure enjoy the smiles that gets from the 2-legged folks (and the treats that seem to immediately follow my "trick"!) Unfortunately, my previous owner became ill and I spent 2 weeks alone in a cold, dark house. Lucky for me, a nice neighbor took me in and brought me to MaxFund where I can meet my Forever Family!

My trusty resource (Wikipedia!) describes Shiba Inu's as "small, agile dogs that cope well with mountainous terrain". This description fits me well as I'm an active youngster in a petite 38 lb frame. I'm housetrained, great on a leash and know some basic obedience commands (and at least one special "trick"!) I think dog parks are fun - especially when I get to play fetch! Although I've never lived with children, I knew several children in my previous neighborhood and we always got along just fine. Cats are a different story, however, as I think they were just made for me to chase!

If you're a loving, caring 2-legged type who is searching for a cuddly, happy, talented young guy (who can also be 2-legged for your entertainment), we just might be a perfect match! I sure hope you can stop by MaxFund soon. Until then, I'll be patiently waiting for your arrival and practicing my "trick"!

Chewbacca

Love!  He doesn't need a bio...but just *had* to post pictures of this lover!!!!

Calf

3/12/11: Yay! Calf was adopted!!

I'm not a big fan of this guy's name, but he's sure a cuddly, playful guy!  I didn't know what a Basenji was - so I did some research :)  Hope it generates some interest in this lil' one!

Hakuna Matata!  This is my motto and means "There are no worries" in Swahili.  Around Denver, there sure seem to be a lot of busy, worried people and I hope to put them at ease with my gentle, fun personality.  Petting my soft fur with my wet nose nuzzling your lap would help any relax!   Adopting me will be way less stressful than adopting one of those overly-energetic, get-into-everything little puppies I see around here.  I already know basic obedience commands, am good with other dogs and am even good around kids! And, the icing on the cake is that us Basenji don't shed!  Woah, baby!  What are you waiting for?!?  The MaxFund folks said I must mention that I'm not much of a cat-kinda guy - so I'd like a home without any cats.

Do you need a little Hakuna Matata in your life?  If so, please come meet me!  I'll be better than yoga and meditation for your inner sense of peacefulness.

Jambo!  That means "Hello!" in Swahili.  I'm Calf, a 6 1/2 year-young Basenji who has no idea how I got my name!?!  While my name origins are unclear, I do know that my Basenji ancestors originated in central Africa and are considered one of the most ancient dog breeds (there are cave paintings featuring Basenji from 6000 BC!)  You say you haven't ever heard of a breed called Basenji?  Well, then...let me educate you!  In the U.S.A., we Basenji are grouped in with the "Hounds".  We are relatively small (I'm 33 lbs), elegant, short-haired dogs with erect ears, a tightly curled tail and a graceful, regal neck.  Yep...that about sums up my handsome appearance!  And, what about the Basenji temperament?  We're affectionate, energetic, athletic, playful and curious.  We form strong bonds with people and become very emotionally attached to humans.  For this reason, it was especially tough when my previous owner lost his home.  Lucky for me, he brought me to MaxFund where I'm safe and sound until I find another human(s) to bond to!

Poncho

3/31/11: Poncho was adopted!!

Poncho is an AWESOME puppy!

Poncho

"Ahhh...look at this lil' guy!"  I'm Poncho and I've heard that exclamation a LOT in recent days!  Enough talk, already!  I'm ready to experience that family life that I've heard so much about!   As a 4-month old Husky mix, I'm already 42 lbs and still growing.  My Family will need enough room and patience to care for a big puppy such as myself.  With that said, I fully appreciate that ours will be a give-and-take relationship...you give me guidance, acceptance & a real home, and I'll be a faithful, loyal, loving companion forever!  And, I promise to provide you daily giggles with my funny puppy antics :)

Not too much is known about my short stent on this earth since I was brought to MaxFund as a stray.  I can tell you that I'm a happy-go-lucky guy and have enjoyed the company of other dogs and all people I've met.  Due to child-labor laws, I haven't encountered too many kids around MaxFund - but I think I would love & and all friendly people!  Of course there's always the risk of my accidentally knocking over the little humans, so please be sure to inquire specifically about your smaller children.  I've never had a witnessed encounter with a cat so the volunteers & staff cannot comment on whether I'd enjoy living with them.  And, like all puppies, I'll require gentle guidance and training to become an excellent adult canine companion.

Thanks for visiting MaxFund's website and reading about me!  If you're in the neighborhood and looking for a puppy-fix, please stop in to MaxFund for a visit!  Just maybe you'll be the lucky human that will be there to watch me grow into my paws!!

Starsky

3/9/11 Update: Starsky was adopted!!

Sweet Starsky couldn't be walked today - hence the picture quality :(  But, he's a sweet, sweet guy and I hope he finds a Family quickly!

Starsky

Got lap?

Hi everyone!  I'm Starsky, a 5 year-young, 45 lb terrier mix who looooooves to cuddle!  You might be thinking that 45 lbs sounds big for a lab dog?!?  But, rest assured, I know my head will fit perfectly on *any* lap & my body will be just fine on the cozy couch (Hint! Hint!).  And, when I say *any* lap, you should know that I love the company of all-sizes of humans - even the wee lil' ones (they have laps too, after all!)  I arrived at MaxFund after my previous owner lost his home, and am greateful that everyone here is oh-so friendly!  Honestly, though - just between you and me - I think I'm much better suited to a family than to the shelter environment (so I hope to find my new Family soon).

I am a rather low-maintenance guy as I'm already kennel trained, know how to use a doggie-door and know basic obedience (I will "sit" and "beg" for yummy treats!)   I enjoy keeping company with other well-behaved dogs, and I love play-time with toys (my favorites are those squeeky, stuffed kind!)  As a terrier mix, I'll need regular grooming to keep me looking and feeling my best.  But, won't I feel better on your lap once I'm all soft and fluffy?!?  I think cats are good...good to chase!  So, no cat-family members should be in my future.
I sure hope you bring your lap and come visit me soon!  I can be easily overlooked with all the ruckus in the big dog room - so be sure you ask for "Starsky"!

Roxi

3/9/11 Update: Roxi was adopted!!

Roxi  bio:

Hello!  I'm Roxi - some have even called me "Foxy Roxi" as I'm quite the looker!  What's my best physical feature, you might ask?  Well, my BIG TOOTHY grin that I flash as I'm running around playing!  Yep...I put my ears down, rump up in the air and just smile ear-to-ear!  As my recent Family lost their home, I haven't had quite as much to smile about lately - but, I'm a natural optimist and know that a lifetime of grins are in my future!

I'm a 2 1/2 year-old shephard/boxer mix who weighs about 60-lbs.  My previous Family had nothing but good things to say about me as I'm housetrained, love playing with other dogs (especially at the park!), enjoy car rides, know basic obedience and I love to play (fetch, tug o' war, chase - you name it & I love it!)  I've lived with children (from infants to older children) and was always on my best behavior.   I'm an athletic gal and one of my favorite pass-times is hiking in the Rockies.  I also have quite an impressive vertical leap so will need a 6-foot fence in my new home.  Everyone keeps asking my thoughts about living with a "cat".  Hmmph...as I'm not quite sure what a "cat" is, I'd need to meet such a creature before answering that question.

So, enough about me - I'm looking forward to learning about YOU!  As the shelter can be a little noisy and overwhelming, let's get to know each other on a walk - I'll show you just what a great girl I am!  Just ask for "Foxy Roxi" and let our journey together begin!

Zager

3/9/11 Update: Zager was adopted!

This medium-sized guy is an absolute *doll*!  I know he's a boy and probably wouldn't appreciate being called a doll - but you just can't help but smile when you see his cuteness!  Again, it's been snowing all weekend so his picture here isn't fabulous - but hope his pic is up on the MF website soon!

Howdy!  I'm Zager, a 1 year-young 40-lb labrador/chow mix.  I was brought to MaxFund after someone found me roaming around a post office parking lot.  Secretly, I was hoping to sneak into a mail package and be shipped to my perfect Forever Family.  But, I hear that the inside of a box is no place for a lil' guy such as myself, so I am grateful that a good samaritan brought me to MaxFund where I can more properly search for my perfect match!

I'm a happy-go-lucky pup who looks forward to becoming intertwined into the life of my Forever Family.  As I'm still a youngster, please remember that I will not know what you expect of me when we first lay eyes on each other at the shelter.  But, I'm a very smart girl and plan to quickly learn what is important to you!  Of course, I love to play - especially tug-of-war and chase!  I enjoy the company of all people - I especially love how people smile when they see my beautiful brown eyes & floppy ears.  I enjoy playing with other friendly dogs so if I'm not in my crate when you come visit, I may be outside romping around with a friend!  I haven't had too much experience with cats or smaller children, but am open to meeting them if they're part of your family!

Us youngins' must all have life aspirations.  My aspirations include: greeting my family with smiles and wags each time they return home; being an attentive, obedient and loyal companion; not being overly intrusive; playing well with 2-legged and 4-legged folks; and providing unconditional love & support to all members of my Family.  Sounds like lofty goals, eh?  Well, I'm up for the challenge!  I just know I'm the perfect little package for the a Family out there - might it be yours?!?!

Otak

3/26/11: Otak is in foster home :)

2/6/11:  It was snowing when I spent time with Otak yesterday - but he's such a sweet guy.  My picture is just to give you an idea of what he looks like - sorry he's behind the fence :(  Soon, the "professional" picture will be on MaxFund and I'll post a link to that.  His previous family relinquished him to MaxFund when he got kennel cough as he they couldn't afford the basic medical care that he needed.  With a little antibiotics, he's 100% well and available for adoption!  It always makes me nervous when more senior dogs come in to MaxFund so I try to make their bios more upbeat.  And, this guys deserves an upbeat bio...he's an active, lively guy!

I've been reading a book called "Inside of a Dog. What dogs see, smell and know" by Alexandra Horowitz - and it's fabulous!  It's given me several ideas for bios and Otak's "Rules" are a modification of an idea in her book.  I recommend this book for any dog-lovers!

Good day, all! I'm so glad you found me, Otak, on the MaxFund website because I cannot *wait* to tell you what I've figured out about humans during my short 10-year life. Ready? Here goes...

"Human Desires and 'Rules' According to Otak"

Most of you 2-legged folks tend to want a 4-legged companion that is friendly, loyal, pettable; who you find charming and lovable, who know that YOU are the boss, who do not potty in the house, who do not jump on guests, who do not chew on your shoes, and who do not dig through the trash. Well, you're in luck! I've got these basic requirements down and look forward to your more individualized expectations!

I'm a 57-lb perfect mix of labrador, shephard and, retriever. Since I shared with you how I plan to keep you happy, let me tell you what I'm looking for in a Family. I'd appreciate regular walks (I'm very well-behaved on a leash), regular meal times, & some loving and attention. Really, that's all I ask for...I'm a rather easy-going guy. With that said, don't presume that I'm a couch potato - I definitely like to be out and about with the best of them! I enjoy the company of well-behaved dogs and older children. I don't think I'd appreciate living with either cats or very young children - neither of those lil' buggers tend to appreciate my emphasis on the above 'Rules'.

When my previous family couldn't take care of me anymore, I'm grateful they brought me to MaxFund where I am well cared for until my new, lucky Family comes along! I look forward to meeting YOU and figuring out how I can keep YOU most happy! Just ask for "Otak"!
