Sophie

9/22/11: Sophie/Phoenix was adopted!

I couldn't find this lil' gals file so her bio is a little bare-bones...I'll edit when I learn more about this cutie!

Who’s looking for an All-American girl?  YOU?!?  Well, perfect – you came to the right place!  I’m Sophie, a 40-lb gal who is the definition of a good dog.  I’m loving, affectionate, know basic commands and I’m even house-trained!  Wahoo!  What else could you look for in a canine companion?  Well, how about good with kids and loves to play with other dogs?  And, how about a dogs that ignores cats seen around the MaxFund alley?  Alrighty then…you asked for it and you get it in ME!

If you’re looking for a perfect canine girl to complete your world, then please hurry on over to MaxFund and ask for Sophie.   I’m in the Big Dog Room waiting patiently for YOU!

Bellow

12/20/11: Bellow was adopted!

Bellow the Bassett

“Do your ears hang low…
Do they wobble to and fro…
Can you tie them in a knot…
Can you tie them in a bow?”

Oh.  Ahem.  You caught me.  Time can get a little slow around the shelter so I have to find ways to entertain myself.  But, I promise my focus is now entirely on you and enlightening you as to why I’ll make the perfect life partner to that special someone…

I’m Bellow, a 6-year-young, 45-lb basset hound.  I was relinquished to MaxFund because my previous family couldn’t take care of me any longer.  Adjectives they used to describe me include (but are not limited to): outgoing, friendly, playful, very loving and lapdog.  Yup…that’s me in a nutshell.

I enjoy the company of other dogs, am well-behaved on a leash and I love to play fetch.  I know some basic obedience commands and I’m even crate-trained.  I don’t have much interest in cats so we could probably co-habitate just fine.   I must mention that I’m not a fan of little humans…they do annoying things like pull on my ears which I don’t find so pleasant.  So, I’ll need to be sure to go to a family that only has older, more mature folks around.

Until you get a moment to come meet me here in the Big Dog Room, I’ll be passing time by perfecting my baritone voice & gazing up longingly at each human that peers into my kennel.   I sure hope I see your face peering down at me soon!

Aussie

9/10/11: Aussie was adopted!

Sweet puppy.

G’day, mate!  I’m Aussie – a 1 year-young Aussie/cattle dog mix who would’ve been content to live out my entire life without learning the meaning of the work ‘divorce’.  Sadly, that noun became part of my vocabulary in my short life and I ended up at MaxFund when my humans decided to ‘divorce’ me too.  But, I wake up each day in this kennel eagerly waiting for my new & true Forever Family to round the corner into the Big Dog Room!

While I wait for my special family to find me, I’m using each day to learn what is expected of an excellent canine citizen.  I'm already very well-behaved on a leash & know some basic obedience commands.  I’m learning how to socialize with other dogs but, like all young’uns, I’ll need a family with the time, commitment and dedication required to teach a young pup what it really takes to mature into a superstar adult canine.

I lived with children in my previous family and we always got along just fine.  With regards to those creatures you refer to as  ‘cats’, I have yet to meet one so I can’t say how I’ll enjoy their company.  Like all of us adoptees, I’ll need to meet all potential family members before deciding if we’re a good match!

If a bouncy, bubbly, very smart young man sounds like a good match for your family, please don’t waste anymore of our time apart!  Come on in and let me show you what a great life-mate I’ll make!

Kia

9/27/11: Kia was adopted!

It was >95 degrees this past Thursday when I went to MaxFund - hence all the pics being of the doggies in their kennels :(

Hello there.  Lucky for both of us, you stumbled across the personalized autobiography of the coolest girl to arrive at MaxFund in a loooooong time.  Yep…that’s me – Kia, a 9-year-young , 71-lb lab mix who was brought to MaxFund after my previous owner passed away.  While I miss my person very much, I’m a natural optimist who is looking forward to my next life-chapter!

I’m an outgoing, cuddly, friendly girl who will make an excellent life-partner for some fantastic family!  I love to play with other dogs – especially when tennis balls are involved!  I’m housetrained, excellent on a leash, enjoy car rides and I am quite the lover.   I can’t speak as to how I enjoy the company of kids or cats (for some silly reason, they don’t let those creatures roam free here in the Big Dog Room) but please inquire with the MaxFund staff if these little buggers are part of your family!

Although I’m enjoying everyone’s kindness here at MaxFund, I know how great having a real home is & I look forward to the day that I have another home to call my very own.  Might that home be shared with you?  Please come on in to MaxFund today and ask for the coolest gal around…Kia!

Sierra

11/6/11: Sierra was adopted!

Sweet, sweet girl.

Have you ever hear of Antionito, Colorado?  Yeah…me neither.  But that’s where I, Sierra – a 50-lb, 6 year-young black lab – was found wandering around in the dead heat of summer.  Some nice folks in an RV (that was air-conditioned, nonetheless!) welcomed me into their home on wheels.  I was so grateful and tried to show my thanks by showering them with lots o’ lovin’!  These good samaritans did their research and were thoughtful enough to bring me to MaxFund where I’m safe until I meet my Forever Family!

Even though no one has claimed me, someone, somewhere taught me some basic obedience commands.  I am housetrained and already know how to sit, lay down…and roll over for tummy rubs (my favorite trick!) I have proven my ability to climb chain link so a secure fence is a must in my new home.  I’m good on a leash, enjoy car rides and like all people I’ve met (even the wee lil’ ones).  I don’t seem too interested in cats and I enjoy spending time with my canine pals around MaxFund!

If you’re looking for an all-American gal, then hurry on in to MaxFund today and ask for Sierra!  I’m waiting…

Tito

9/3/11: Tito was adopted to a great family with 2 kids :o)

Cute, little guy :)

Good day, folks!  I’m Tito, a 4-year young, male terrier mix who just wants to love you & kiss you & check on you & make sure you’re happy!   As I was found as a stray not too much is known about my past experiences or my life-preferences…but I can tell you that YOU are my #1 priority!  I can also tell you that I'm highly socialized, good-natured and easy-going - what more could you ask for?!?

Even though I’m only 23-lbs, I’m currently residing in the Big Dog Room here at MaxFund.  My fellow dog-neighbors have told me that there are people out there who will welcome me into their home & family forever…woah!  My paws are crossed that such a special person stumbles across my path ASAP.  I have a life-time of love all pent up and ready to dole out readily!

If you’re that special person who is willing to prove to me that families are forever, I sure hope you’ll hurry on in to MaxFund today and ask for Tito!

Gandolf

9/10/11: Gandolf was adopted!

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful guy.

Greetings good people.  Gandolf here - I'm an 8-month old, 25-lb Australian shepherd/Sheltie mix who's best described as one cool dude.  Somehow I ended up roaming the streets of Denver but some nice person took me into their home while they searched for my previous owner.  When no one claimed me, I was fortunate that they opted to bring me to MaxFund where I'm safe until some lucky human discovers me!

Like all puppies, I'll need a home where all folks have the time, patience and commitment to teach me what it takes to be a superstar adult canine citizen. Obedience training would be fantastic, although I already have a head-start as I know how to sit and I'm extremely eager to please.  I'm treat-motivated and good around all people I've had the fortune to meet.  I am not phased by other dogs as I pass their kennels and I love to play with all dogs I've had the pleasure of meeting!  I haven't met any young children around MaxFund but I can say that I ignore cats as I pass them in the alley.   If other dogs, cats or children are part of your family, please be sure to inquire with the MaxFund staff about how they think we'd all get along!

If you're on the search for a cool and collected young dude to share a lifetime of snuggles, laughs and romps then please don't waste any more of our time apart.  Head on in to MaxFund today and let's get our life started already!

Sunny Bear

12/20/11: Sunny Bear was adopted!

Sunny Bear is a MaxFund return - hope he learns that a family means FOREVER!

Howdy, folks!  I'm Sunny Bear, a 3-year-YOUNG, 37-lb Chow Chow who'd like to share with you all my take on life...

These paws were made for walkin' (hint! hint! - I love leash walks!)
Children were made for herdin' (so the MaxFund folks say I probably shouldn't live with one)
Human hands were made for pettin' (puh-lease!)
Outdoors were made for potty-in' (I'm housetrained like any nice gentleman)
Fences were made for jumpin' (so a secure fence is a must)
Cats were made for co-habitatin' (I lived with a cat in my previous home & we got along just fine).
Treats were made for rewardin' (I know how to sit, heel, walk, "paw" - aka, shake, high-five, and wave)

...and I was made for being alpha-dog (I'll need to meet any other dogs to make sure we'd get along ok).

I was originally adopted from MaxFund a couple years ago but the family returned me when they couldn't take care of me anymore.  I'd like to learn that...

Dogs were made for keepin'!!

Will you be the special person to show me that adopting a dog means forever?!?  If so, please hurry on in to MaxFund ASAP - I'm ready to see my last life-theory in action!

Melvin

9/19/11: Melvin was adopted!

Melvin was recently neutered - hence his cone of shame :(

Konnichiwa!  That means "Good afternoon" in Japanese!  I'm Melvin, a Shiba Inu and my ancestors originated in Japan.  Inu is the Japanese word for dog, but the origin of the prefix "Shiba" is less clear. In one old dialect, "shiba" means "small" - which describes us perfectly!  I'm about 23-lbs and as good-lookin' as a dog can be.  I was brought to MaxFund as a stray so not too much is known about my previous life.  The good person who brought me to MaxFund reports that I was good with the resident cat and I'm very eager to please.

I'm an energetic guy with an optimistic outlook on life.  Us Shiba Inu's are described as having a spirited boldness and good nature which together yield dignity and natural beauty.  We are loyal and affectionate to our humans and live every moment of life to the fullest.  Also, true to my breed, us Shiba's are a fastidious breed who can often be seen licking our paws and legs much like a cat.  True to my fastidious roots, I'm housetrained and try to always put my best paw forward!

I need proper introductions to other dogs and am unsure how I'll enjoy children (they don't let too many of them run free here in the Big Dog Room at MaxFund).  When the MaxFund folks learn more about me, I'll be sure they update my bio (I'd do it myself but I haven't passed Typing 101 yet - heehee).

If you're looking for a petite, loyal, affectionate pup who's excited about all life has to offer, please hurry on in to MaxFund today and ask for Melvin!

Tanner

8/31/11: Tanner was adopted!!

Sweet, calm guy :)

Hi there & thank you for visiting my very own autobiography site!  I'm told I'm supposed to advertise myself here so I'll give it my best shot!

I'm Tanner - a 4 year-young, 55-lb Chow Chow with a quiet, calm nature.  I'm a happy guy who is content to just lay in a ray of sunshine until you want something of me.  I love car rides, leash walks and treats.  I'm housetrained, good with other dogs and I even enjoy the company of cats!  I've not spent too much time around children but think I'd enjoy the company of any older, calm & well-mannered children.  In summary, I'm a gem of a canine who will make some lucky human(s) a fantastic life-partner!

2011 has been a tough year as my owner passed away and I ended up in a shelter.  I'm grateful for everyone's efforts to find me the perfect Family & I will spend the rest of my life working to repay all the humans' kindness.  If you want to be the main recipient of my gratitude, then please head on over to MaxFund and ask for Tanner!

Yuna

8/31/11: Yuna was adopted!

Yuna is on the left in this picture

Hello there! I'm Yuna, a 3 year-young, 65-lb female Malamute/husky mix who was brought to MaxFund along with my friend Cid. Sadly, our previous owner became ill and lost their home. Lucky for us, they brought us to MaxFund where I'm actively searching for my Forever Family. My current life-motto is, "The third time's a charm!"  You see, I was initially adopted by my previous family from another shelter just in time to escape euthanasia.  I am so grateful to my previous owners for saving my life and the recent good-bye was heartbreaking for all involved.  But, I'm oh-so-thankful that they chose MaxFund where I never have to be on death row again!  And I'm just sure that my third chance at life will really be IT for me!

My previous owners gave me a glowing report describing me as affectionate, easy-going, and a happy girl with a positive outlook on life.  I'm a snuggler and will even snuggle up under a blanket if given the opportunity.  When I'm not snuggling, I enjoy chasing balls and playing with my canine friends.  I've always been friendly with kids although I may knock them over in moments of excitement.  With regards to cats, I seem to ignore them so we might be able to co-habitate just fine.

Although I'm enjoying sharing a kennel with Cid here at MaxFund, we do not insist on going to the same home - our number one priority is that we each find a fantastic life-long home.  If you're looking for a beautiful gal with an even more beautiful personality, then head on down to MaxFund and ask for Yuna!

Cid

8/31/11: Cid was adopted!!

Cid is the sweet dog on the right in this photo...

Hey y'all!  I'm Cid, a 4 year-young, 63-lb catahoula/shephard mix who was brought to MaxFund along with my friend Yuna.  Sadly, our previous owner became ill and lost their home.  Lucky for us, they brought us to MaxFund where I'm actively searching for my Forever Family.

My Catahoula ancestors are believed to have occupied North America longer than almost any other dog breed (we're also called the Louisiana catahoula leopard dog) but I'm a Colorado-canine through and through!  My previous owner just couldn't say enough good things about me.  They describe me as loyal, patient and intelligent.  They go on to say that I can read my humans' emotions and always want to comfort everyone around me.  I originally came to them at just THREE DAYS of age and they bottle fed me until I was ready to eat puppy food.  The goodbye was heartbreaking for everyone involved but I'm an optimistic guy who is looking forward to the next phase of my life.

I'm housetrained, past the annoying puppyhood-chewing phase, "very" well trained (I know how to sit, stay and come - and I also know the commands "walk" & "bedtime" but my favorite word is "outside!").  I'm a superstar cuddler and I enjoy the company of well-behaved kids, cats and dogs.  I'm also a major water dog...I even love sprinklers and the hose!  In addition to swimming, I also love all "outside" activities - especially when they involve tennis balls, frisbees and, maybe, even a front porch and some people-watching!

Although I'm enjoying sharing a kennel with Yuna here at MaxFund, we do not insist on going to the same home - our number one priority is that we each find a fantastic life-long home.  Are you looking for a Southern Gentleman with some western flavor?  If so, then hurry on in to MaxFund and ask for Cid!

Buddy

9/22/11: Buddy was adopted!!!!

Calm guy...

Greetings all!  Are you on the search for a new Buddy?  If so, then I'm your perfect match!  I'm Buddy, a 3-year young Shiba Inu mix who was brought to MaxFund as a stray. Although my previous life may have been a bit uncertain, I am a rather well-natured guy who enjoys the company of all other dogs, cats and people I've met.  I'm not so sure about little kiddos but such a nice young man as myself will probably do just fine with any polite beings.  Like all of the MaxFund residents, I'll need to meet all potential family members before deciding whether we can co-habitate.

My trusty resource (Wikipedia!) describes Shiba Inu's as "small, agile dogs that cope well with mountainous terrain".   Unfortunately, my previous life didn't allow me to live up to my fantastic roots (ahem...that's a nice way to say that I've packed on a a few extra pounds - I'm about 38-lbs right now).  But, lucky for you, several studies (by the National Institutes of Health, nonetheless!) demonstrate that dog owners who regularly walk their dogs are more physically active, more mobile inside their homes, less likely to be obese, and experience less stress, anxiety and loneliness!  Research also shows that walking your dog helps contribute to positive, enjoyable social interactions!  Woah baby!  Looks like we'll both benefit by regular exercise!

My favorite activities include playing with tennis balls, getting brushed, and just lounging around.  I must admit that I'm a bit of an escape artist so my future family will need to commit to keeping me safe and secure.  My least favorite day of the week is trash day - the loud noises that truck makes is truly the dumps!

Please hurry in to MaxFund ASAP - your new Buddy is patiently waiting!

Piper

9/30/11: Piper was adopted!

Perfect girl

Hello!  My name is Piper and I'm a 5-year-YOUNG, 65-lb, female German Shepherd mix.  I was relinquished by my previous owner as (s)he became ill and lost the family home.  I'm a little confused and really miss my previous family but I know that the perfect family is out there searching for me right now!

My previous owner had only fantastic things to say about me.  Here's just part of the long list of why I'll make the perfect canine companion:

Housebroken? Check.
Good with kids? Check.
Good with other dogs? Check.
Enjoys car rides? Check.
Good with cats? Check.
Basic obedience? Check (including sitting on my rump with my front paws up in the air - which sure makes you humans smile!)
Good on a leash? Check.
Good lookin'? Check.

I'm quite the star athlete and am a very impressive jumper - so I'll need to go to a home with a tall, very secure fence.  I'm patiently waiting for a loving, faithful, attentive family in which I can relax and trust that they will always keep me safe, healthy and protected.  Not too shabby of a goal, eh?  I look forward to meeting YOU soon!

Hooch

8/31/11: Hooch was adopted!

Hooch is truly a HOOT!

YeeHaw!  You say you're looking for a new 4-legged companion?  Well, look no more - your good fortunes have led you to stumble upon me...Hooch - also known as "Hooch The Hoot" around MaxFund!  I'm an 8-month young, 26-lb terrier/schnauzer puppy who is guaranteed to make *you* grin!  Sadly, I was found one morning abandoned on the MaxFund front porch - but I have no regrets and I'm taking advantage of meeting every friendly person and dog around!

I'm quite a popular young man around these parts.  I can seem a bit shy when you're looking at me from the other side of my kennel, but I promise I warm up quickly and will show you what a bundle-of-laughs I really am.  My favorite pass-times include chasing balls, playing tug-of-war and plain ole pouncing around.  My biggest decision of late occurred when faced with multiple tennis balls in one of the play rooms here at MaxFund...I just couldn't quite figure out *which* of those balls should be carried around!  I hear that a bigger decision is in my near future - picking the *perfect* forever family!

Like all puppies, I'll need a family with the time, patience and commitment to teach me what is expected of a superstar adult canine citizen.  I have a head start though as I already know how to sit and I'm very treat (and toy) motivated!  And when I have a rare puppy-mess-up, I will just look at you with my big, round eyes and floppy ears...and I promise your heart will absolutely melt!  I don't have any known experience living with another dog, cat or child so I'll need to meet those little buggers before deciding whether we could live together.

If you're looking for an adorable, exuberant, happy-go-lucky guy who promises to keep you laughing, please come on in to MaxFund and ask for "Hooch the Hoot"!

Ebony

12/20/11: Ebony was adopted!!!!

Another black lab.  She's a total sweetie and I hope she finds a home ASAP!

Hello all!  I'm Ebony, a 6 year-young, 60-lb black lab with the most adorable eyes seen in recent times around MaxFund.   When I have visitors, I cock my head to the side and stare longingly into each and every soul trying to figure out what they're thinking and feeling.  I was brought to the shelter because my family couldn't care for me any longer and I'm eagerly searching for my true Forever Family.

My favorite activities include going on leash walks, playing fetch (I'm an *awesome* fetcher if I do say so myself!) and receiving pets & loving.  I am housetrained and know basic obedience commands such as sit, stay and beg.  The folks at MaxFund have fallen in love with my gentle spirit and describe me as a "love bug" and a "real sweet lady"!  II am one of the most popular girls in the Big Dog Room here at MaxFund and I have many canine buddies that I love to pal around with.  My cat experience is limited so I'm unsure how I'd enjoy their company.  As far as human children, I've lived with kids as young as 7 years-old and was always on my best behavior.

If you're looking for a calm, loyal life-partner, then I just might be the lady for you.  Please hurry to MaxFund as I'm eager to get on with my life!  Remember to ask for Ebony - I'll be longingly searching for *you* to come around the corner into the Big Dog Room.

Pearl

10/3/11: Pearl was adopted!

9/22/11: Pearl is in a Foster Home!!

She's so darn cute.

Hello ya’ll.  My name is Pearl and I’m an original Southern Belle.  I’m 3 year old lady who was transported to MaxFund from another shelter as someone realized what a rare gem I truly am!
Please allow me to tell you a snip about my Bluetick Coonhound ancestors.  We originated in Louisiana, are the state dog of Tennessee and were finally recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2009.  We're rather popular on the country music circuit  - being featured in Blake Shelton's "Ol' Red" and Emmylou Harris's "Red Dirt Girl".  Despite my Southern roots, I think I’m a great Colorado dog and I look forward to settling in!
In appearance, we Bluetick Coonhounds are muscular, athletic and agile – not to mention our beautiful tri-colored coat and floppy ears.  We are bright, alert, friendly, eager to please and courageous.   And, while us Southern Belles don’t like to brag…if I do say so myself, I make my breed proud!  I am a great citizen and especially love friendly dogs, car rides and even kids.  I haven't met any cats so I'm unsure how I'd like to share a home with one.  Obedience training should be part of my future but I'm a smart girl and already know some basic commands.
I am a spunky, charismatic gal who keeps on the sunny side of life.  In fact, my favorite southern quotation is” “Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together!’  I know that I will easily “fall” into sunny days and cozy nights as part of your family. I hope ya’ll can stop by and visit me – just ask for “Pearl…the Southern Belle!”

Lilian

9/19/11: Lilian was adopted!

Sweet young gal!

Did you know that according to a survey by the American Animal Hospital Association, 70% of you humans sign your pet's name on greeting cards and 58% include their 4-legged family members in their holiday portraits?  Woah Baby - I want to be in that majority of dogs!  My name is Lilian (also known around here as "Lila") and I spent my first (& only) year of life in a rather abusive and neglectful situation (luckily, I hear I was in the minority).  When my previous owner lost their home, they just abandoned me.  Someone nice person saved me and brought me to MaxFund where I've heard all about how many great most humans actually are!

The good samaritan who rescued me describes me as an energetic, loyal and friendly girl.  I have spent time around kids as young as 2 years-old and, while I enjoyed their company, I have been known to accidentally knock over the little tykes in my more excited moments.  Like all rambunctious adolescent pups, I'll need some basic training to learn what is expected of adult canines.  I already have a head start, though, as I know how to sit and I'm oh-so-eager to please!

In my previous home, I lived with my canine brother and we got along just swell.  However, I haven't been around too many other dogs and have never encountered a cat - so I'll need to meet any and all 4-legged potential canine and feline roomies prior to deciding whether we can co-habitate.

The holidays are quickly approaching - are you the special human who will welcome me into your family for the holiday season?!?  My paws are crossed that you might even include me in your 2011 family holiday portrait!  Let's start our life-long journey together by you coming on down to MaxFund and asking for Lilian!

Frankie

8/31/11: Frankie was adopted!!

Big puppy.

Wahoo! Isn't life great?!? My name is Frankie and I'm an 8-month *young* black lab puppy who loves all life has to offer! I'm a social butterfly (I love frolicking with other dogs), am very affectionate (I love hugs, cuddling and even French kissing) and I'm quite the flirt! Some silly person let me get away and I ended up as a so-called stray (although I've never met a stranger!) A friendly person welcomed me into their home where I enjoyed the company of the family, including the children! When no one claimed me, I was brought to MaxFund where I am waiting for the perfect Forever Family.

Like any 59-lb puppy, I'm a high energy guy who needs some basic training. When I first meet you, I may be inclined to do a little "puppy mouthing" but I will quit upon the "sit" command. One of my favorite pass times includes chasing tennis balls - although I'm not so much of a retriever as it's *way* more fun to pick up the ball and take off! I haven't had too many experiences with cats but please inquire with the MaxFund staff if a cat is part of your family.

Won't you please come visit me soon?!? I try to set myself apart from the other black dogs in the Big Dog Room by flashing all visitors the biggest smile in the room. When you come visit, I Look forward to getting out of my kennel so I can really strut my stuff!
