Bear Bio ("Black Bear")

9/10/11: Bear was adopted!

I laughed during my entire walk with Bear :)

Yipee!  YeeHaw!  Hi everyone!  My name is Bear and I'm a 5 year-young lab/sharpei mix who has been studying up on how to stand out in a crowd!  You see, us big black dogs can have a harder time getting adopted from shelters such as MaxFund.  No worries for me though as I've developed some clownish antics such as perfecting my belly-up poses (note my wide eyes & humongous smile in my picture above), as well as sticking out my tongue *each* time someone tries to snap a photo of me (again, refer to photo above)!   Woah Doggie - I sure know how to make you 2-legged folks giggle!

My previous guardians moved into a home where they couldn't have larger dogs so all 65-lbs of me ended up at MaxFund.  They had nothing but fantastic things to say about me as I'm a fabulous guy!  I'm housetrained, excellent on a leash, great with other dogs & I even enjoy the presence of well-behaved children.  I don't have too much experience with cats so please ask the MaxFund folks their thoughts if a cat is part of your family.

If you're searching for a thoroughly unique, well-behaved canine family member then I just might be your guy!  Come on into MaxFund & ask for Bear!

Darla

5/20/11: Darla was adopted!!

Those perfectly round eyes really tug at my heart strings...

Hello there, folks!  I'm Darla, a 69-lb boxer mix who was brought to MaxFund as a stray.  At 7-years young, I have many great years to share with you & am currently available for adoption or foster.  The MaxFund people have fallen head-over-heels for me & we're working together to find the perfect family for me to join!  I know that once I find a family to love me, I'll be the best dog they've ever met!!!

What makes me such a great girl?  Here are just a few notable characteristics of mine...

Housetrained?  Yup.
Good with other dogs?  Yup.
Perfectly round eyes?  Yup.
Good with cats?  Yup.
Good in the car?  Yup.
Loving & affectionate?  Yup.
Well-mannered on a leash?  Yup.

Pointless chewing?  No way.
Digging in your yard?  No way.
Mindless barking?  No way.

While no one at MaxFund has seen me around younger children, I'm definitely open to the idea of meeting any little tykes to see if we could co-habitate.  I dream of the day I trot right on out of this noisy Big Dog Room with my new Family - will I trot into your home?!?!

Trestle

5/14/11: Trestle went to his Forever Family!!

"Good dog" describes this guy perfectly :)

According to my most trusty resource (Wikipedia, of course), a trestle is a rigid frame used as support.  What a perfect name for such a reliable, trustworthy man such as myself!  I'm Trestle - a 2-year young, 70-lb lab mix who is searching for the perfect family to provide me some stability.

In my short life, I'm learned what it takes to be a "good dog".  I am housebroken, crate-trained, & know some basic obedience commands. I pride myself on my excellent leash manners & will happily "sit" before crossing the street if you'd like me to.  I also know how to relax & "smell the roses" as you humans say (in canine-language this translates into thoroughly enjoying affectionate belly rubs & rolls in the spring-time grass.)  I get along well with the dogs I've met at MaxFund, but I don't have too much experience around cats or younger children.  If any of these latter creatures are part of your family, please inquire with the MaxFund folks about how they think we'd live together.

If you're looking for a solid life-long companion who also enjoys the lighter side of life, I just might be your guy.  Given the opportunity, I know I can snuggle my way right on into your heart!

Bear the Man

6/30/11: Bear The Man was adopted :o)

6/8/11: Bear The Man is back :(  Hope his next family is truly Forever.

5/14/11: Bear The Man was adopted!

HeeHee.

Never mind my golden, soft, curly fur.  Pay no attention to the fact that my favorite activity is cuddling.  And, ignore my bright pink tongue that sparkles when I smile.  My name is "Bear the Man" & I'm 100% boy!

I'm a 35-lb Wheaten terrier who has been described as friendly, obedient & loyal.  At 7 1/2 years-young, I'm past the annoying puppy habits of chewing your shoes & soiling your home but I still have many years ahead of me (us Wheaten terriers typically live 13-15 years).  I'm a pretty easy-going guy who won't demand too much of you humans - although daily exercise is a must for all of us.  In addition to cuddling & strolls on a leash, my favorite pass-times include car rides & simply being near my humans.  I know basic obedience commands such as sit, stay & come but would always appreciate the opportunity to learn new tricks!  And, while I enjoy the company of some other dogs, we all need to understand that I prefer to be the alpha-male-dog!  I'm searching for a home without a lot of hustle & bustle.  I also must let you know that I cannot live with cats or any children under the age of 18 years (as a cool-&-collected masculine canine, I just can't handle that drama & unpredictability!)

If you're in the MaxFund neighborhood, stop in for a visit!  Be sure to ask for "Bear the Man" & I'll be sure to welcome you with a true "Wheaten greetin'"!

Freedom

6/1/11: Freedom was adopted!!

Lover.

Howdy!  I'm Freedom & I'm an All-American Girl!  Like so many of us Americans, I've had to make some sacrifices for our country.  See, my previous guardian was deployed to fight for our great country so I ended up losing my home.  Lucky for me, I wound up at MaxFund where I fully intend to become an American success story - complete with cozy pillows, jaunts through city parks & a loving, affectionate family!

With my brindle coat & stocking-like white paws, I'm a stunningly attractive mix-of-a-dog.  The MaxFund folks think I might be a Great Dane Mix but my "other half" must've been a smaller breed as at 2 years-old, my adult weight is only 50-lbs.  I'm friendly & love to play with other dogs - especially tug-of-war & chase!  I enjoy the company of older children, but have yet to encounter very young tykes or cats.  I'm housebroken, kennel-trained & enjoy car rides.  I've got the basic obedience commands down but further training is always a plus (like all Americans, I'm up for a challenge!)  I'm well-behaved on a leash & would make an excellent jogging partner.

Might my American Success Story involve you?  Well then...hurry on over to MaxFund & meet me already!  Just ask for Freedom - the All-American Girl!

Angus for Mayor 2011!

7/24/11: Angus was finally adopted!!!!!!!!

My husband helped me write this fun bio!!!!

Hello, Denver!  My name is Angus & I'm a Shar Pei mix who has decided to throw my collar into the ring as the 11th candidate for mayor in this great city of ours!  Why might I make a good leader?  Well, I've been around these parts for my entire 6-year life & believe I have an insider's view on many "hot topics".  You see, I was initially adopted from MaxFund as a puppy (I've grown to 55-lbs since then) but was relinquished to another Denver-area shelter earlier this year.  Fortunately, they were able to trace me back to MaxFund where I have launched my campaign for mayor!  Here is my stance on pertinent issues facing our city...

Education: I was fortunate to have received a great education in my youth. I follow most commands and have learned to obey the rules. While I support the education of my young human counterparts, I probably would do best not living with them during their younger years. I like to stick with adult issues as part of my platform.

Parks and Recreation: I am PRO WALKS through and through! Playing in the yard & walking the neighborhood on a leash are some of my favorite things to do---especially when I get to meet voters! In fact, I'm so enthusiastic to meet voters that I have jumped 4 ft. fences to get into the community. Therefore, a 6 ft. fence is a must!

Community Relations: I love other dogs, but have little experience with cats & other animals. I would probably do best being elected to a "dogs only" political district, although I'm open to meeting felines if they're part of your family.

Environment: I love my environment & have a solid track record of respecting my family's indoor environment (in other words, I always make sure to relieve myself outside)!

I will be hosting a daily meet-and-greet at my temporary home at MaxFund.  All potential constituents of mine are invited to come visit.  Angus for Mayor 2011!

June 8, 2011 Update: I'd like to pass along my congratulations to Michael Hancock - your choice to represent Denver for the next four years. Please keep my platform in mind & I hope we can all work together to make Denver a better city for *all* its citizens!

Bonnie B

5/14/11: Bonnie B went to her Forever Family :)

xoxoxo

Hallo all!  I'm Bonnie B, a 63-lb Doberman/Shephard bundle-of-love!  Why do they call me Bonnie B, you might ask?  Well, I'm convinced that it's short for Bonnie Brae - which means "nice looking" or "easy on the eyes."   Yup...that's me - from my long fluffy, curled tail to the 2 perfect circles above my beautiful chocolate eyes to my stunning pointy ears & graceful stride, I'm definitely a majestic lady!  Unfortunately, my previous guardian couldn't take care of me any longer so they brought me to MaxFund where I am eagerly awaiting my Forever Family.

At 1 1/2 years-old, I'm still a very playful pup.  Lucky for both of us, I'm old enough to be past those annoying puppy habits of chewing & "relieving myself" on your kitchen floor.  I'm also crate-trained (I'd love a crate to cozy up in!) & know basic obedience commands (sit, lie down, shake, etc.).  I love frolicking with other dogs & would love a canine companion in my future family!  I haven't spent much time with cats & I've been described as "tolerant" of children.  If cats or kids are part of your family, please inquire with the MaxFund folks about whether they think we could co-habitate.

I forgot to mention how well-behaved I am on a leash (hint! hint!)  And, while out on walks, I hope we can take time to pause so I can roll around in the grass & receive some belly-rubs!  Well, what are you waiting for?!?  Please come visit MaxFund & ask for "Bonnie B"!

Isis

5/31/11: Isis was adopted!!

Sweet mama ;)

Alo! Ezayko! That's how you say "Hello, how is everyone?" in the native tongue of Egypt!  I'm Isis, a lucky Puggle who was named after the Egyptian Goddess of fertility & motherhood!  This name is *perfect* as the good samaritans who found me were simply moving into their new home....and SURPRISE!!...there I was with all of my puppies.  They think my previous owner died & so I was left in the home to have & care for my babies alone.  This new Family was amazing!  They put off their box-carrying & immediately started helping me care for all my pups!  Over several months, they were able to make sure we were all healthy & they even found all my pups wonderful homes!!  When they couldn't find another family to take me in, the brought me to MaxFund where everyone is working hard to ensure that the perfect family finds me!  And, don't worry, I've been spayed so I can retire from mommy-hood!!

I'm a very well-behaved adult gal!  I'm housetrained, enjoy car rides & am past that annoyed chewing-phase of puppyhood.  With that said, frequent playtime & exercise is a highlight of my day!  I'm good with all people, including children (I lived with a 3 year-old for 3 months & we really became pals!).  I also enjoy all dogs I've met so a doggie-roomie would be fun.  I don't have too much experience around cats so please inquire at MaxFund if cats are an important part of your family.

Although I'm only about 25 lbs, I'm waiting to meet you in the Big Dog Area.  Remember to ask for "Isis"!

My pups!

Here are some recent pics of my pups!!

Bacchus:

Circe got stuck in some mud (that was deeper than her entire legs!)  It took me about an hour to scrape that mud of her during her bath!!

Some pics of them both that make me smile.  The first is them as seen from my rearview mirror.  The second is them lounging on the back patio :o)

Missy

5/31/11: Missy was adopted!!

5/27/11: New pic of Missy:

Sweet, low-key gal.  Her bobble-head is absolutely adorable!!

Missy bio

Greetings everyone!  I'm Missy - a 50-lb, 4 year-young terrier mix who is sure to provide your family endless smiles!  I never really thought of myself as entertaining until the MaxFund folks started talking about my ability to bob my head back & forth like I'm a bobble-head!  When you ask me to sit, I'll nod/bob my head back & forth as my eyes stare intently trying to figure out what you want me to do.  I sure enjoy the smiles that gets from the 2-legged folks (and the treats that seem to immediately follow my "trick"!)

Like so many of us, my story is a bit complicated.  I was initially taken in by MaxFund as a stray but my family came to take me home.  However, they then relinquished me to a kill-shelter who, lucky for me, traced me back to MaxFund!  I'm not quite sure why they didn't want me anymore as I get along great with other dogs, all people - even children.  I'm also housetrained, am very gentle on a leash, know basic obedience commands & have a very distinctive beard and whiskers that give me a rather unique look.  So, here I wait at MaxFund for the *perfect* Family who will appreciate what a fabulous gal I am!

If you're looking for an undemanding pup who shows trust, patience, excellent manners AND provides endless entertainment, then I'm your gal!  Please come visit MaxFund soon!  As I don't take part in all the noise-making back here in the Big Dog Room, please be sure to ask for Missy!

Remi

12/12/11: Remi was adopted!!

Sweet, big guy!!

Obedient.
Dignified.
Affectionate.
Graceful.

These are the top four adjectives that come to mind when people get to me, Remi!  I'm a 2 year-old Rottweiler who was brought to MaxFund after my family lost their home. I'm grateful to be safe & well-cared for here at MaxFund but I look forward to meeting my new Family!

My previous guardians did an excellent job of helping me become a stellar canine citizen.  My professional dog-training classes helped me learn basic obedience commands (sit, down, come).  I have always been very well-behaved in the yard (no digging or escape-tactics), in the car & when left home alone (I'm kennel-trained!)  Of course, I know to do "my business" outside (that goes along with being obedient & dignified), and I get along well with most other dogs and people I've met.  With that said, I'll probably do best in a home without young children.  I haven't had too much experience around cats, although squirrels definitely pique my interest!

At 115-lbs, walking me can initially seem like a formidable task.  But I promise that I'm a very well-behaved young man who knows how to keep both of us happy when we're out & about.  When we pause for a moment, I'll lean into you for hugs & affection and am oh-so-appreciate of any TLC I receive.

Are you the lucky person on whom I can lean?  If so, I sure hope you can get to MaxFund soon!

Dayla

Update: Dayla was adopted!

Dayla is in a foster home :)

Dayla has been abused.  She's terrified of leashes.  The people at MaxFund are working with her & she seems to be making progress already!  She's cute as pie & this picture doesn't do her justice!!

Hi!  I'm Dayla & I'm on the search for the MOST SPECIAL two-legged person in MY world!  This person must be patient, compassionate, loving & kind-hearted.  They must be committed to helping me, Dayla, a 1-year old boxer mix learn that most people are good.  I need to learn that most people won't hurt me but are trustworthy and loving.  This is pretty hard for me to believe right now as I was in a rather abusive home before I was rescued by a good samaritan who couldn't stand to see me hurt anymore.  I'm settling in here at MaxFund & receiving some much-needed & deserved rehabilitation and love!

I know some basic obedience commands (such as sit) and I *reeeeally* want to please you humans.  It seems that some of my trauma was associated with leashes & the MaxFund folks are helping me learn that leashes lead to fun romps in the park & aren't supposed to be used to hurt me.  I probably shouldn't be in a home with small children or cats for now.  I haven't had too much experience around other dogs so please inquire with the MaxFund staff about whether they think I could live with your 4-legged family member!

My favorite pass-times include cuddling with stuffed toys, chasing balls and sitting calmly with loving humans.  I'm looking forward to being someone's best friend, confidant, constant companion who will give enduring, unconditional love.  Won't you please come visit me to see if YOU are the MOST SPECIAL person in MY world?!?
