Rider

4/10/11: Rider was adopted!

Rider was the first English Bulldog I've spent much time with.  What a hoot!  He'll make some lucky family smile 24/7!!

Good day, gentle-people.  I'm Rider, a proper 4 year-old, 57-lb English bulldog who is looking for love.   Although I try to live up to my refined gentleman roots, I just can't help the frequent snorts & other noises that I emit.  Guess I'll have to focus on the positive side of these body acoustics...they sure make you humans *smile*!!

Despite our "sourpuss" expression, us English bulldogs are usually docile & affectionate.  I don't disappoint as I'm great with all people, including younger children & I *love* cuddling.  I enjoy the company of other dogs and, while I've never lived with a cat, I would probably not mind living with any well-behaved creatures.  Of course, I'll need to meet all family members to ensure that we'll make good life-long companions.  While daily exercise is a must for all dogs, I'd be a great dog for an urban setting - possibly even a good apartment-dog.

I was a bit neglected in my previous home & escaped the yard on numerous occasions (& they didn't even notice!)  This was especially sad for me as I'm a real people-dog who was just searching for some human companionship.  In fact, I kept running to the same nice lady's home because she gave me lots of affection!  Unfortunately, she couldn't keep me but brought me to MaxFund where she knew they'd work hard to find me a family with lots of TLC to bestow on such a fabulous guy as myself.

Won't you please come visit me?  I'm the short-est, square-est guy in the Big Dog Room...you can't miss me!

Mama

9/19/11: Mama was adopted!

5/14/11: Mama is in Foster :)

Love Mama!

Hello.  My name is Mama & I'm concerned about the economy.  At last check, dog food was up $3 per bag...that's $21 in dog money (hee! hee!)!  At 7 years-young, I'm a real caretaker & am constantly concerned about the people & world around me.  I was brought to MaxFund with a smaller dog (MeeMee) after our guardian died.  MeeMee was adopted (thank goodness!) so now it's my turn!

Recently, with all the concern about my family, I haven't prioritized my own well-being...& I've packed on a few extra pounds (I currently weigh 91-lbs). Fortunately, I'm excellent on a leash and I look forward to frequent exercise to get back my girl-ish figure.  True to my caretaker self, I did some research to ensure that frequent exercise will benefit *you* too!  Here's what I found...  several studies (by the National Institutes of Health, nonetheless!) show that dog owners who regularly walk their dogs are more physically active, more mobile inside their homes, less likely to be obese, and experience less stress, anxiety and loneliness!  Research also shows that walking your dog helps contribute to positive, enjoyable social interactions!  WooHoo!  Looks like we'll both benefit by regular exercise!

I'm past the puppy-hood phase of chewing, jumping up on guests and going potty in the house.  I enjoy keeping company with other dogs and know how to use a dog door.  I've never lived with young kids or cats but I'd likely be just fine living with any well-behaved beings.  Of course, I'll need to meet all potential family members before making conclusions about being roomies.

I'm patiently waiting for a loving, faithful family in which I can relax and trust that they will take care of me.  In exchange, I promise to always keep an eye out for your best interests.

Twanette

Twanette is in foster :)

Such a cute, little princess!!

"Look at those ears!"  Hi!  I'm Twanette, a 7-month old, 18-lb shepherd/sharpei mix who has heard that exclamation a lot lately!  I was originally adopted from MaxFund a few months ago.  My new guardians moved and gave me away to a neighbor.  The neighbor couldn't care for me & brought me to another Denver-area shelter.  Lucky for me, they found my MaxFund microchip and returned me to MaxFund where I can wait for my true Forever Family.

I'm quite the urban princess & am not at all startled by all the hussle and bussle of city-life.  Helicopters, fire engines, crowded streets...it's all good.  As I'm still a puppy, I'll need a family with the time, energy and patience to teach me what's expected of a superstar canine citizen.  I have a head start, though, with my peaceful demeanor and eagerness to please.  I love all people, including children, as well as other friendly dogs.  I have yet to meet a cat so am unsure if we can live together.

I'm here waiting in the Big Dog Room - but, really, the only thing big about me is my heart!  Please remember to ask for Twanette!

Cinnamon

3/31/11: Cinnamon was adopted!!

Love me some Cinnamon!!

Today is OUR lucky day!  Lucky for BOTH of us, you've come across my biography here on the MaxFund website.  I'm Cinnamon, a 1 year-old, 39-lb  shepherd mix who was found as a stray in Las Vegas, New Mexico.  My golden fur & milk chocolate eyes melted the hearts of the NM shelter folks - so they brought me to MaxFund where I am safe until I find my Forever Family!

I'm friendly toward all humans and dogs alike.  In fact, I love to shower everyone I meet with kisses!  Even in the middle of my leash-walks, I'll turn around and give hugs & kisses to let you know how grateful I am to be spending time with you!  Endearing for sure, although I could be taught to keep all four paws on the ground if that's what you would prefer.  I will look deep in your eyes to try & figure out what you want of me.  I'm a gentle, young girl who is eager to learn.  One of the volunteers even described me as "smart as a whip."  While I'm not quite sure how smart whips are, it sure sounds like a compliment!   I'm not too sure how I'd enjoy living with cats as I haven't met any yet but I'm definitely open to a meet-and-greet with any potential family members!

If you're looking for a 4-legged companion who will spend the rest of her life trying to thank you for saving her life, you've hit the jackpot!  Hurry in to MaxFund & ask for Cinnamon!

Ali

3/31/11 Update: Ali's owner found her on the MF website & reclaimed her. He says she is 17 years-old & a coyote/dog mix!  Hope he's taking good care of her :)

Sweet, sweet starved girl who looooves sniffing when out on walks.

Hello there.  I'm Ali, a shephard mix and I pride myself in keeping up with current events...through my nose!  You see, I love my daily walks like you 2-legged folks love your morning newspaper.  Sniffing around the neighborhood is necessary so I can keep track of who's been where, with who and when.  We all like to be informed citizens!

I came to MaxFund as a starving stray and am actively working on getting up to a healthy weight.  I'm super easy-going, get along great with other dogs, and I don't seem to mind the presence of cats.  At 10-years young, I have a bounce in my step & even love to play with tennis balls!  I'm excellent on a leash & am hoping for frequent walks - that fresh air & sunshine sure seems to bring up my tail, if ya know what I mean!!  I'm a very lovable pup & will lean & roll right on into those pets you offer.  I sure hope to get caught up on all that TLC I've missed since I've been on the streets!

Coffee.  Newspaper.  Strolls around the 'hood with my 2-legged (and 4-legged) companions.  These are the things doggie-family dreams are made of.  If you're looking for a a trusting, undemanding companion, please come on in to MaxFund and ask for Ali!

Sheila

4/18/11: Sheila was adopted!!

Sheila's a bouncy, happy pup that deserves a loving home!

Hello & thank you for clicking on my profile!  I'm Sheila, a 1 year-old, 32-lb terrier mix with quite a tale to tell.  I was initially adopted from MaxFund as a young pup.  Shortly after I was brought "home", my guardian (and I) relocated to Nebraska.  However, this guardian thought it was ok to leave me in the back yard while he left town for a few days.  I couldn't figure out where he went & why I was all alone, so I decided to go searching for him.  Unfortunately, I had an encounter with a fast moving motor vehicle and ended up with several injuries.  A nice person brought me to a vet where they identified me based upon my MaxFund microchip.  The vet contacted the fantastic folks at MaxFund, who managed to get me back to Denver.  Once here, I underwent medical treatment & rehabilitation - and, I've come out good-as-new!

I'm a happy-go-lucky-gal who doesn't even hold grudges against fast-moving motor vehicles!  In fact, I love car rides!  I know basic obedience commands & enjoy playing with other dogs.  I haven't spent too much time with cats or younger children but, if they're a part of your life, I look forward to meeting them to see if we could live together.  Favorite pass-times include walks (I'm good on a leash), playing (I'm still young after all!), getting lovin' and givin' kisses!

Even though I'm a medium-sized gal, I'm waiting for you in the big dog room here at MaxFund.  Be sure to look for the bouncy, fluffly-tailed terrier mix with the biggest smile around!

Sadie

3/26/11: Sadie was adopted!

Sweet young gal who I hope has a short stay at MF!

If you're looking for a best friend, confidant and constant companion, you've come to the right place!  I'm Sadie, an 8-month old, 40-lb bundle of love!  A good samaritan found me running loose around Denver and invited me into their home.  They were gracious enough to let me stay while they searched for my previous guardian - but when no one showed up, they brought me to MaxFund for maximum exposure!  During my visit at their home, I had tons of fun playing with other dogs, kids (as young as 4 years-old) and I even tolerated their cat!  Now, I'm just waiting for that perfect family to discover me!

Like all puppies, I'll need a family with the time, patience and energy to help teach me what is expected in your home.  I'm a quick learner as I've already learned how to "sit" and "lie".  I am very treat-motivated, which can help us with my training.  And, when I'm really concentrating, one of my ears flops over while the other points to the sky - this seems to make the humans smile!

Two of my favorite activities include car rides & couch cuddling (when I'm allowed on the couch!) - and I'm not getting too much of either during my stay at MaxFund.  If you're the special person searching for a young, goofy, active girl such as myself, I hope you'll hurry on in so we can start our life together!

Darth

5/14/11: Darth was adopted!!

"The force is strong with this one."

Greetings to you all!  I'm Darth - a 1-year old, 62-lb Chow/Sharpei mix.  I was brought to MaxFund from another shelter when my time was "up" and I'm grateful for my second (or third!) chance at life.

As I entered shelter-hood as a stray, not too much is known about my past.  I am quickly learning basic obedience commands (with the help of yummy treats!) & how to walk on a leash.  Cats are still foreign to me so I'm not sure how we'd get along.  I'd probably do well with older children, although I'm not too sure about those unpredictable younger kids.  And I haven't yet had much experience with the other dogs around MaxFund - but I'm looking forward to the opportunity to see if we get along!

True to my namesake, I have a strong personality and am looking for a good pack leader.  Unlike my namesake, I have an amazingly adorable face, beautiful curly tail & cuddly, cozy fur (that I hope you take advantage of!)  I'm a playful pup and I enjoy romping around, playing chase and keeping the 2-legged folks laughing.  I will make a loving, loyal & entertaining companion...will it be with your lucky family??

Candy

7/10/11: Candy was adopted!!

5/4/11:  Candy is doing fantastic in her foster home!  Her foster mom asked me to update her bio...here's the update (& I included an updated picture (picture taken by her awesome foster mom) You can hardly see the scar above her eye & she looks so calm & happy!!):

I've heard that a fairy tale goes something like this...an adorable youngster has a rough start in life (that's ME, Candy!); some fantastic force or being (that's YOU!) goes above-&-beyond to intervene; finally, there is a happy ending (that's US!) Fabulous! I'm excited to see how my fairy tale unfolds.

I'm Candy, a 28-lb labrador-mix who was born around August 2010. No one at MaxFund is exactly sure what my first few months involved but we can tell you that I was brought to a shelter with some sort of trauma above my right eye. It doesn't look like I was hit by a car or anything as there were no other apparent injuries. Many nice folks treated my head wound and I'm good-as-new physically. However, it seems that some people were pretty mean too me (that's my "rough start" I was referring to).

I was pretty darn fearful when I first arrived at MaxFund, but I've been in a fantastic foster home where I'm learning how fun life can be! I get along great with my canine companions in my foster family. Playing rough with the bigger dog is a blast - although I'm much more reserved around my calmer Chihuahua pal. Hanging with confident playmates (both human & canine) is helping me learn to be less fearful & I look forward to this continuing with my Forever Family! My foster mom describes me as quiet (I rarely bark) & 100% housetrained! In fact, when I gotta "go", I will stand at the door & let out a little whine to request a potty break. As if that's not enough, I'm also crate trained!

Are you the fantastic being with whom I can share my fairy tale ending? If so, please come visit me soon!

3/30/11: Candy went to foster :)

Candy is so fearful.  She was, clearly, abused and was brought to another shelter with some sort of trauma above her right eye - you can see the scar in the picture.  The outside shelter transferred her to MF and her wound has now healed (with some medical treatment).  It's now time to work on some emotional healing for this lil' girl...

The friendly people at MaxFund are helping me learn that most people are friendly.  I'm even starting to enjoy this whole "petting" thing.  I'm a very good girl on a leash (no pulling at all) and I seem to prefer to potty outside of my kennel.

As such a sweet lil' gal, I have tons of potential.  There are specific techniques that can help me learn to trust & enjoy life; the MaxFund folks can help us with these.  I'll need a human with the time, motivation and patience to help me adapt to this big, beautiful world of ours!

Are you the fantastic being with whom I can share my fairy tale ending?  If so, please come visit me soon!

Roscoe

7/10/11: Roscoe was adopted!

5/1/11: Roscoe is back :(

3/26/11: Roscoe was adopted!!

Roscoe bio:

Got bull?

If so, I'm not the dog for you.  What about pygmy goats?  Again, not my favorite.  My name is Roscoe and I was transferred to MaxFund from another rescue organization after I just couldn't seem to co-habitate with the bull or pygmy goats.  I'm a 1 year-old, mastiff mix who weighs about 75-lbs.  I've enjoyed playing with all other dogs I've met and I think dog parks would probably be fun (I especially like to play chase!)  Cats seem to be made for chasing so I probably shouldn't live with one.  And, no bulls or pygmy goats please.

I am rather well-behaved and know basic obedience commands such as sit, stay & lie down.  I'm also housetrained and am good on a leash.  I've been known to dig underneath fences - I'm not trying to escape per se; I'm just trying to see what's on the other side!  So, I'll need a secure yard.  The MaxFund folks can provide more information about how to ensure my safety.

For your entertainment, I took lessons from that bull and I jump and wiggle my body in the air like a buckin' bull.  I love how that makes you 2-legged folks smile!  If you're ready to get your smile on, please come visit me at MaxFund (bull-rider applications are even being accepted so long as you don't keep the bull in the house :)

Quincy

3/17/11: Quincy was adopted :)

Hello there!  My name is Quincy and I'm a 3 year-old, 95-lb Rottweiler mix.  While we're unsure what I'm "mixed" with, I have longer hair than pure-bred Rotties.  All the better to cuddle with, if you ask me!

I am a chronic optimist who doesn't like to dwell on the past.  I will tell you that I was dropped off at MaxFund's front door with an injured leg & I wasn't able to walk.  The person who left me didn't give MaxFund any further information so the humans aren't sure exactly what I've been through.  In my opinion, it's better that way so that we can all simply focus on the future!  Speaking of future, I'm now all healed from my previous injury and ready for the perfect family to share my life with.  The future I envision involves me being welcomed into a family with open arms & loving hearts.  I envision frequent walks through the park and further obedience training so I can excel in my quest to be a fabulous Rottie citizen.  Due to my injury, I haven't had too much experience romping with other dogs, cats or kids around MaxFund but I welcome the opportunity to meet all of your family members.

Are you that special someone who can fulfill an optimistic Rottie-girl's dreams?  If so, I sure hope to meet you soon!  Remember to ask for Quincy!

Mike

3/17/11: Mike was adopted!

Single, sophisticated, independent, 4-legged, 2 year-old male seeks caring, relaxed family to share lifelong companionship.  A bit about myself: I'm a 45-lb husky mix who was a stray before landing at MaxFund.  My best physical feature must be my bright blue eyes...no wait, it's my perfect, pointy ears...ah, actually, it's definitely my magnificently soft fur & fluffy, curly tail.  You get the point that I'm easy on the eyes.

I'm searching for a companion who appreciates my laid-back approach to life.  I'm good on a leash & enjoy car rides so I hope to share frequent outings with my future companion(s).  I enjoy the company of all people and dogs that I've met at MaxFund.  I'm unsure how I'd get along with younger children or cats, although I think I could live with any & all 2-legged & 4-legged creatures as long as they're well-mannered.  My favorite moments are spent giving and getting affection.

Are you that special someone looking for a fantastically-courteous young man as a lifelong companion?  No pressure!  Let's just relax & get to know each other.  We can figure out if we're a good match...and THEN I can trot right out of MaxFund & into the sunset with my new life-partner(s).

Tobie

4/30/11:  Tobie went to her Forever Family today!

4/24/11: Tobie's adoption has been finalized!  She'll be going home with my husband's cousin & his soon-to-be-wife in Grand Junction, CO!  They just bought a new home & she'll have a nice yard to call her very own :)  Here's to Tobie!

4/10/11: Tobie's potential adopter didn't work out (through no fault of Tobie's!)  So, she's back in our home waiting for a Family she can call her own!!  I just glanced at the picture of her when I first met her inside the shelter (the last pic in this post) & it breaks my heart!  She's a totally different, happy, upbeat dog now & has many years of good like to share with someone!!  I updated her bio:

Hello!  My name is Tobie and I'm an outstanding German Shepherd.  I was transferred to MaxFund from another shelter when they needed more room for incoming dogs.  Prior to my shelter life, I was a *superstar* service dog - able to sense when my guardian was going to have a seizure.  Unfortunately, (s)he had a decline in health and was no longer able to care for me.   I was brought to the shelter in hopes that I can find a Family and experience the retirement lifestyle I deserve!

Even though I'm taking about "retirement", I'm a very active girl!  I love trips to the dog park & will even get down in that playful puppy stance (ya know, the one with your bum in the air!) and encourage the younger pups to play!  I enjoy hiking (the mountains or a neighborhood will do just fine) & playing with rope toys.  When you say "sit", I will balance on my back 2 legs & with my paws up in the air "begging" you sweetly for a treat or some TLC.

As you would anticipate for a previous service dog, I'm extremely well-trained.  I enjoy the company of all people (including babies & kids), other dogs and even cats.  On walks, I love to explore the sights & smells but I check in frequently with my 2-legged companions.   My leash-walking ability is important as my figure is a little Rubenesque (ahem...that means full-figured) so I hope for frequent exercise to optimize my health.  One of the MaxFund volunteers couldn't stand to see me in the shelter environment after so many years of service to humans...so I'm now in a foster home!  However, I dream of the day that I have a home & family I can call my own!

Most service-dog organizations have long waiting lists to adopt retired service animals.  Lucky for both of us, I'm available at MaxFund for adoption NOW!  Please contact MaxFund and ask for Tobie!!

4/6/11: Tobie is still doing great here in foster. In the mornings, when offered a treat, she will do this adorable position where she balances back on her bum & puts her paws up in the air.  Unfortunately, she *only* does this in the mornings (must take too much energy later in the day) & so it's always dark when she does it!  My phone camera doesn't  take the best night pics....but here are a few!!  We're supposed to have a meet & greet with her potential adopter's dog this weekend...fingers crossed that it goes great - she deserves it!!

3/31/11: More Tobie pics!!

3/28/11 Foster Update: Here are pics from our first trip to the Westminster Off-Leash Open Space.  Tobie stayed on-leash, of course (fosters shouldn't be off leash!), but she had a fantastic time!  We're working on taking off some of those extra pounds!!

3/27/11: Tobie is in foster at my home :)  Here are some photos from her first night.  The first is the meet and greet (which my friends, Camille & Derec (& baby Wesley) helped with.

And, these are pics of Bacchus and Tobie - after Bacchus got over his growl-y-ness!!

3/17/11 Update: I spent quite a while with this lover today.  She is such a sweetie & does NOT deserve the shelter life after 10+ years spent serving as an assistance dog.  My heart goes out to her.  Here are some pics:

Here's my first sighting of sweet Tobie.  She stole my heart from this moment on!!

Lexi

3/26/11: Lexy was adopted!

Lexy bio:

If you hear a squeaking in the Big Dog Room, it might be me, Lexi, playing with my squeaky toys!  At 1 year-old, I'm an equal-opportunity toy-lover (tennis balls, ropes, squeaky-kinds...) - they're all so fun!  I was transferred to MaxFund from a high-kill shelter and am so grateful that I have time to enjoy all kinds of new toys!  I'm one of those mixed breed dogs that you humans call "mutts".  The best guess is that I'm a labrador/collie mix.  I think I'm more "mix" than anything else.  Either way, I'm stinkin' cute!

I looooove playing with other dogs!  I also enjoy the company of the well-behaved kids that I've met.  Even cats would probably be fine - as long as they can tolerate my puppy-goofiness!  Like all adolescents, I'll need a family that has the energy, patience and time required to help me become a stellar adult citizen.  AT 37-lbs, I'm probably done growing up - and I'll need regular exercise to ensure that I don't grow out (hee! hee!)

Puh-lease hurry up and come visit MaxFund!  Just ask for Lexi (or you can head toward the squeaking sound!)

Jason

4/18/11: Jason was adopted!!

Man oh man!  Isn't life awesome?!?  I mean, I just do what you 2-legged folks want...you give me yummy treats!!  I smile...you smile!!  I show you my belly...I get a belly rub!!  WootWoot!  Life. Is. Good.

An enthusiastic hello to everyone!  I'm Jason, a 9-month old, 45-lb lab-mix puppy who was found as a stray in Wash Park (a big park here in Denver).  What better place to hang with other 2-legged & 4-legged folks who also have a zest for life?!?  A good samaritan realized I was without a 2-legged type & brought me to MaxFund where I'm waiting for my Forever Family.

As you might have guessed I'm a bouncy, bubbly puppy who will need a guardian with time & energy to devote toward helping me become a good dog citizen.  I've got a head start as I can already sit, lie down, fetch and walk well on a leash.  I really enjoy playing with other dogs and frequent dog-park trips would be fantastic!  I've met several kids and have been very well-behaved.  I haven't spent too much time with cats, but I think I'd probably enjoy their company as much as the next creature.  Of course I'll need to meet all family members before we decide that we're a perfect match.  I know my match is out there searching for me & maybe - just maybe - we can visit my old stomping grounds (Wash Park) together?!?

Barry

4/10/11: Barry was adopted!!

Barry bio

Howdy friends!  I'm Barry, a 1 year-old, 35-lb shepherd mix.  If I was 2-legged, I know I'd be the most popular guy in school.  I'm a complete social butterfly and have yet to meet a person or canine that I don't LOVE (although I have yet to meet any 4-legged creatures called "cats")!  They all LOVE me right back!!  I'm not quite sure why I wasn't adopted in my previous shelter (I was transferred to MaxFund when my time was "up") but I know that good things come to those who wait.  So here I wait!!

Like all adolescent boys, I need parents with the time and patience to invest in my maturation process.  Us social butterflies may initially appear self-sufficient, but we all need love and guidance to become respectable young men.  First and foremost, obedience training is a must.  Second, frequent loving & cuddling (I love laps!) is required.  Third, ample exercise & play-time will help me divert my energy in healthy directions.

I know that my wait will be well worth it when I see you coming around the corner at MaxFund!  Please help shorten my wait-time by visiting me sooner rather than later.
