Shisco

6/30/11: Shisko was adopted!!

5/1/11: Shisko is at Camp Bow Wow!  Hopefully he can find an awesome Family there :)

2/5/11: I played with Shisko today - such a sweet, sweet guy!  And his vertical jump is *amazing* so I added it in his bio (although I don't want to scare people!)  Here's a pic of us playing today...  Bah!!  I love this guy!!

Shisko was adopted from MaxFund as a 6-8wk old pup.  Unfortunately, his family returned him this month because of his so-called "protective/guarding instinct."  He's a total lover so I hope his return stay at MaxFund is short and sweet!

Well, hello there. My name is Shishko and I'm a 3-year old, 100-lb distinguished gentleman. While I may be a big guy, I'm really just a lover who longs to be part of a family. Unfortunately, my former guardians couldn't care for me any longer so they brought me to MaxFund where I'm patiently waiting for my new Family (and I know they're out there!)

As a gentleman, I'm very well-mannered and considerate. I'm housebroken (that goes along with being well-mannered), know basic obedience commands (of course!) and have even had formal training (I'm very quick to obey your 'commands'). I enjoy the company of other well-behaved dogs (in my previous life, I even went to doggie daycare several days per week), but I do appreciate when other dogs allow me to the the alpha-male. I must also mention that I do not think cats make good roomies. My favorite passtimes include playing fetch (I love to catch the ball mid-air...what a sight!!), hiking, swimming and going on walks (I'm very polite on a leash!) I have an adorabl-y cute playful streak and love to get down on my front legs with my bum in the air and pounce all around. Fun for all!

I'm a labrador/shephard mix who has a bit of a guarding instinct. And, while I've always gotten along with considerate, well-behaved kids, I'll need everyone around me to commit to keeping us all safe and happy! In return, you can expect a loyal, well-mannered, fun-loving, *attractive* gentleman. Yep...those adjectives about sum me up (did I mention the attractive part?!?) Please come visit and ask for "Mr. Shishko the distinguished gentleman!"

Louie

3/9/11 Update: Louie was adopted!

Louie bio:

Hello there, potential co-pilots!  My name is Louie and I'm an active 2-year young, 75 lb labrador/hound mix.  Maybe bloodhound...maybe Plott hound...but definitely a handsome hound!  I was transferred to MaxFund from a high-kill shelter and am glad to be safe and well cared for while I search for my future co-pilot!

I absolutely love being around all people and other friendly dogs.  And, I especially love going on walks (and jogs...and hikes!).  When people first enter my crate at MaxFund, I get very excited to have a visitor!  But I reeeeeeeeallly want to please you humans and I will sit while you put on my collar and leash.  You'll love my soft, fluffy tail that gracefully wags back and forth during our entire walk.  And, during our walk, I'm very responsive to your voice and always try to be on my best behavior!  You may be wondering why I'm specifically searching for a future co-pilot?  Well, because I love car rides, of course!  I thoroughly enjoyed the 3-hour drive to Denver and would love to be part of a family that will show me around town!  Maybe we even could drive into the mountains and be hiking buddies?  That's the stuff doggie-dreams are made of :)

While I haven't met too many cats, I don't seem too interested in squirrels or pigeons in the neighborhood, so I just might be able to live with a nice cat or two.  About those kids, I think I'd love them very much - but I might accidentally knock them over in all my excitement so please ask MaxFund their opinion about your miniature co-pilots.
Won’t you please come visit me? Just ask for “Louie…your future co-pilot!”

Jenna

3/26/11: Jenna was adopted!!  Now we need to find NOS a home :)

Jenna is *very* overweight. But, she actually does great on a leash (I was worried I might have to carry her back to MF if we went too far). She's slow - and we rested frequently - but she did great! Hope she can shed some lbs with frequent walks at MF...

Hello everyone! I'm Jenna, a 3 year-old basset hound/cocker spaniel mix who was brought to MaxFund (along with my brother "NOS") because our previous guardian couldn't take care of us anymore. To be honest, though, we're not really too much work. As our #1 priority is finding a Forever Family, we're happy to be adopted together or separately.

I must confess that during my short life, I've packed on a few extra pounds. I currently weigh in at 44 lbs (and the MaxFund folks say my ideal weight is probably around 30 lbs). But, lucky for you, several studies (by the National Institutes of Health, nonetheless!) show that dog owners who regularly walk their dogs are more physically active, more mobile inside their homes, less likely to be obese, and experience less stress, anxiety and loneliness! Reaseach also shows that walking your dog helps contribute to positive, enjoyable social interactions! And, I sure do enjoy walking on a leash! Yeah, baby! Looks like we'll both benefit by regular exercise in 2011!

I am a very sweet, loving girl who enjoys the company of other dogs, cats and all friendly people. I haven't spent too much time with children, but think I could probably live with nice, respectful kids. I am housebroken and know some basic obedience commands. At the end of the day, I'd just love to cuddle up on a cozy lap (or bed!) and snooze the evening away.

Are you looking for a calm, happy 4-legged companion? If so, I just might be your gal! I'm here in the Big Dog Room at MaxFund waiting for your visit. As I'm not too much of a barker, please be sure to ask for "Jenna" so you don't miss me!!

NOS

4/10/11: NOS was adopted!!

This guy is a totally cutie!  He reminds me of my mom's cairn terrior, but bigger!  And, not the  obese-kind of bigger...just a solid guy.  Not sure where his name comes from - so I made it up :)  Hope it helps him find a fab Family!

Hi folks!  My name is NOS and I'm a terrier-mix.  Ok, ok, I may be more "mix" than terrier - but that is why my name (NOS = Not Otherwise Specified) is so perfect!  I'm a 5 1/2 year-young, 1-ft tall, 59 lb, PLAYFUL pup!  I was brought to MaxFund (along with my sister "Jenna") because our previous guardian couldn't take care of us anymore.  To be honest, though, we're really not too much work.  Our #1 priority is finding a Forever Family, and we're happy to be adopted together or separately.

I am a very unique looking guy, with my terrier-face, short legs, curly tail and solid body.  I was recently told that I look like a stuffed animal that you humans might win at a carnival!  I am housetrained, am very good on a leash and appreciate walks.  I enjoy car rides, playing fetch and I really love to play with toys (I especially love those ropes with tennis balls attached!)  One of my favorite activities is rolling around in the grass - the soft grass feels good on my back and I love seeing the 2-legged folks smile as I roll over again and again!

I'd like to be in a home without cats or very small children.  And, of course, I'd need to meet any potential canine family members to make sure we enjoy each other's company prior to becoming roomies.  If you're in the neighborhood, I sure hope you can take a few minutes to visit MaxFund!  You can catch up with me here in the Big Dog Room - just ask specifically for NOS!!

Peaches

3/9/11: Peaches was adopted!!

Peaches bio:

Howdy! I'm Peaches - a 45 lb, 2-year young Australian Shephard Mix. I was transferred to MaxFund from a high-kill shelter because someone recognized just what a fantastic young gal I am. Whew...that was close...I still have a lifetime of living to do!

Did you know that Australian Shephards (also called "Aussies") did not originate in Australia?!? We got our name because we arrived in the USA with boatloads of Australian sheep. In addition to working as stockdogs, we have earned recongition in other areas due to our trainability and eagerness to please! Even though I'm a mixed breed dog, I'm true to my Aussie roots with these characteristics! The staff and volunteers at MaxFund describe me as FUN and PLAYFUL! I just love life! I'm good with kids, know some basic obedience commands (such as "sit"), and am a very good girl on a leash (so I hope we can go on frequent walks!) I also love car rides and would love to accompany you around town. In addition to my awesome personality, I'm a rather good-looking gal. With my pointy ears, fluffy tail, and tri-colored coat, what's there not to love?!? I haven't had too much experience with cats, so not sure how I like them. And, like all dogs, I would like to meet any potential canine Family Members before deciding if we could live together.

I've spent quite a while in shelters but have kept my head held high! I dream of the day that I trot right on out of MaxFund with my Forever Family...will I be by your side at that moment? I promise to be a loving, fun lifetime companion!

Snuggle Buggle

3/12/11: Snuggle Buggle was adopted!

Hello, world!  I'm Snuggle Buggle, an 8-month old happy-go-lucky mixed breed pup who LOVES LIFE!  I'm an active, clownish gal who weighs about 28 lbs - but I probably have a little more growing to do.  I was brought to MaxFund as a stray and was found to have parvovirus.  But, don't you worry, I underwent complete treatment (no further follow-up needed & no residual effects) and it didn't ruin my spirit!

I am hoping that someone out there can help me learn the meaning of the word, "cute" as I've been hearing that word a lot lately.  When people walk by my kennel here at MaxFund, I cock my head to the side and everyone seems to stop, smile and use that "cute" word.  They even seem to combine "cute" with other phrases such as "cutie pie" and "cute as a button".  I'm not trying to be "cute" - I'm just trying to figure out who is going to welcome me into their family and guide me the ways of becoming a first-rate Canine Citizen!  Us puppies are definitely more work than an older dog, so I'll need someone who can be patient and calm in their teaching methods.  I haven't had too much experience with kids or cats, so would want to meet them before deciding whether we could live together.  I've also never lived with another dog, but think I might enjoy a Canine Companion!

Are you looking for a fun-loving, "cute" pup to share a lifetime with?  Well then, we might just be a perfect match!  Please come visit MaxFund - and don't forget to ask for "Snuggle Buggle"!

CC

2/5/11 Update: CC was adopted!

CC bio:

Hello everyone!  My name is CC and people tell me I'm a collie/chow mix.   Whatever my past, I've sure turned into an intelligent, mellow gal!  I was brought to MaxFund by a good samaritan who found me near a very busy street here in Denver.  I'm enjoying getting to know the other friendly dogs here and am accepting applications for my new Family!  Speaking of families, I love all people - including kids.  I haven't met any cats here at MaxFund but I'm not too interested in the squirrels or pigeons I've encountered - so, I think I'd be able to live with any friendly 4-legged or 2-legged folks!

As I was a stray, MaxFund doesn't know that much about my past.  So, let ME tell you why I'm so fantastic!  First of all, I'm a very smart girl.  In fact, MaxFund is letting me review all applications I receive for future Family members (teehee!)!  I know some basic obedience, but would love further training to allow me to fully demonstrate just how smart I really am!  I'm excellent on a leash - and, I mean excellent!  I even love going on walks with other dogs here at MaxFund!   I weigh 49 lbs and have beautiful brown eyes, pointy ears and long, soft fur.  Like all ladies with beautiful, long hair, I'll need regular grooming to help keep me looking glamorous.

I'm an optimistic gal and just know that I'll find the perfect Forever Family who appreciates all I have to offer.  Are you that special someone looking for a beautiful, attentive, loving 4-legged addition to your family?  Great!  I'm looking forward to reviewing your application soon!!

Woody & CC

Took these two on a walk today together - it was fabulous!!  Here are some pics I took along the way...

Bandit

3/31/11: Bandit was adotped!!

Bandit bio:

Konnichiha!  That's how you say "hello" in Japanese.  My Akita ancestors from Japan are extremely loyal and intelligent.  In fact, the famous Akita (named Hachiko) spent nine years waiting daily at the railway station for his deceased master to return home (like he had always done during his master's life). Hachiko's popularity brought back the Akita from the brink of extinction.  Of course, we're all familiar with my Labrador ancestors - we're the most popular breed of dog in the USA!  What do you get when you combine an Akita and Labrador?  You get me...Bandit!

I'm a 6 year-young guy who enjoys life.  I'm a sociable, loving pup who is great with all people, including children.  I know many basic obedience commands, including sit and shake.  I'm housetrained, love to play with toys (especially stuffed ones), and am VERY POLITE on a leash (you stop walking, I stop walking - you continue on walking, I continue on walking - you turn around, I turn around  - you get the idea!)  I'd like to be the only pet in my new home.  But, don't worry, I'm loyal enough to fulfill all your 4-legged companion needs!  I just know you'll love petting my long, soft fur and will smile whenever you see my tightly curled tail.

Are you looking for a fun, loyal companion?   Well...here I am!  I sure hope you get a chance to come visit me soon...I'm waiting!!

Logan

5/14/11: Logan was adopted!

3/26/11: Logan is in foster home :)

Logan bio:

Howdy folks!  My name is Logan and I'm a champ at adding new lyrics to old songs.  Here's my latest creation - remember that Nancy Sinatra song "These boots were made for walkin'?"  Well...here's my adaptation:

"These ears were made for lovin'...and that's just what they'll do! One of these days they're gonna love all over you!"

So - what do you think?  If I do say so myself, that's quite a talent for a 3 & 1/2 year-old, 60 lb, 1 ft tall Basset Hound!  I had to fill up my time somehow in my previous life (I was kept outside, alone, for most of my life).  Since coming to MaxFund, I've heard that there are humans who will actually welcome me INSIDE their home!  Fantastic!  I'm sure hopin' to find me one of those humans!  I think any humans would enjoy having me as part of their family as I love all people (including the little humans that are about my height!).  I also enjoy the company of other dogs and cats.  I know basic obedience commands like "sit", "stay", and "leave it".  I think car rides are fun - as is chasing tennis balls (although I prefer to keep the ball instead of return it - heehee.)  And, did I mention that I really LOVE to have my ears rubbed?

As I've spent most of my life outdoors, I may need some patience as I learn how to live inside.  I dream of being with my family, instead of looking at them through the back door.  Are you the generous person who will welcome me into your home and love on my ears (and the rest of me!) forever?!?  If so, please come visit MaxFund and ask for "Logan"!

Muttley

2/5/11: Muttley went home with his New Family!

Hello!  I'm Muttley, a 9-month old cutie-pie poodle mix who was brought into MaxFund nearly frozen solid.  I, literally, had icicles hanging from my matts of hair.  It took a while to defrost but I've really settled in to my new haircut and warm kennel.  Now, I'm just looking to add the cozy home-setting to make my life complete!

I'm an eager, social puppy who loves interacting with all humans, dogs and cats that I've met.  I have yet to meet any kids at MaxFund, but I think I'd have fun playing with them too! I really love city-life and am completely comfortable with all the buzz of the city (ambulances, buses and other loud noises don't bother me at all).  With that said, I'd be perfectly happy in the 'burbs or country.  I'm very good on a leash and really appreciate going on walks.  As I'm still a puppy, I'll need a family with the time and patience to train me to become a first-rate Canine Citizen.  The rewards for your loving will include a lifetime of love, snuggles and wiggles!

I'm in the Big Dog Room here at MaxFund, but I'm really just a medium-sized guy at 28 lbs.  I am bursting with love - can I please share it with you?!?

Shaka

4/15/11: Shaka was adopted!!

Shaka's bio:

Greetings!  I'm Shaka, a 49 lb, 1 1/2 year old Collie Mix.  My family moved and just left me behind to fend for myself.  Fortunately, some nice people helped me get to MaxFund where I am on the search for my REAL Forever Family!

The Shaka is a common greeting gesture, often associated with Hawaii - ya' know - the gesture where you humans stick out your thumb and pinkie finger and twist your hand back & forth?  It's a welcoming gesture of friendship, understanding and relaxation.  What a perfect name for a perfect guy such as myself!  I'm housetrained and good with other dogs and cats.   I haven't ever lived with kids, but I think we would probably get along just fine.  I enjoy car rides and REALLY love going on walks.  In fact, I'd love to be your hiking and/or jogging partner!  I know how to use a dog door, and know basic commands such as "sit" and "lay down".  Tug o' war and fetch are my favorite games - but, really, I just love any and all social interactions!

I sure hope you notice me with all the noise here in the Big Dog Room.  I'm not too much of a barker, but I think my eyes will catch your attention right away!  Just remember to look for "Shaka"!

Blondie

3/9/11 Update: Blondie was adopted!!

Blondie bio:

Hi there!  My name is Blondie and I'm a 6-year young, 55 lb yellow lab.  I was found in a wonderful family's yard as a stray and was fortunate enough that they invited me into their home.  I stayed with them for several days while they searched for my family but no one claimed me.  I am a great girl and loved playing with the other two dogs in the home.  Lucky for me, they bathed me, trimmed my nails (which I didn't seem to mind), gave me a fabulous name and brought me to MaxFund to find my real Forever Family!

I'm a very well-behaved, considerate, obedient and well-mannered gal.  I'm housetrained (of course!) and know basic obedience commands.  My favorite passtimes include walking on a leash, playing with other 2-legged and 4-legged friends, and getting (& giving) affection.  MaxFund hasn't seen me around kids or cats, but I sure think I'd enjoy living with any being who is nice to me!

I'm the definition of (wo)man's best friend, so I sure hope we can meet each other soon!  Just ask for Blondie!

Bella!

8/19/11: Bella was adopted!!!!

5/1/11: Bella is back :(  Hope this sweetie-pie finds the perfect Family ASAP...she deserves it!

3/9/11: WooHoo!  Bella was adopted!!!

Sweet Bella has been at the shelter several different times.  She has this amazing instinct to chase (and not be so friendly) with other animals.  But, she loves LOVES people and kids.  And, I love her.  I was asked to write an updated bio...and here's what I came up with.  The pictures show her white "Italian scarf" :)

Ciao Bella! That means, "Hello Beautiful" in Italian - and, it just happens to be my favorite saying! In case you couldn't guess, my name is Bella and I'm a 2 year-old, 45-lb lab mix. In addition to my velvet-y soft chocolate fur, I have beautiful white paws and a beautiful white area of fur on my chest that looks like a fancy Italian scarf. Really - my white "scarf" wraps around my neck behind my left ear (you can see it in one of my pictures here)! Ciao Bella, indeed!

The staff and volunteers at MaxFund just *adore* me! I love all people - big and small. I've lived with kids and was described as "loving, gentle and kind" to even the littlest of those kiddos. My favorite pass-times include swimming & playing with Kongs & rope toys. In addition, I am housebroken, kennel-trained and really LIVE to please my people. While I'm treat-motivated, I will "sit" upon request whether you're wielding a treat or not. I also know other basic obedience commands, such as "lie down" and "stay". Buon cane! (That means "Good Dog" in Italian!)

I really enjoy being part of a family. But, I'd like my next family to not have any other pets. In fact, I'm a chaser-by-nature and will need all people to commit to keeping me at a safe distance from other animals. In appreciation of your commitment, I promise to always greet you with wags and smiles, listen to stories about your day and cherish you forever. I sure hope we can meet soon. Gratzi!

Daisy

3/9/11 Update: Daisy was adopted!!

Daisy was brought in to MF today by a couple of good samaritans.  She was, apparently, rescued by them from a home that had several intact (not neutered or spayed) dogs and when a couple of the dogs weren't getting along, the owner considered just shooting them all.  Huh??  You don't take care of your dogs...and then when they act like dogs are "made" to act, you just shoot them?  Argh...  Anyways, she's a lover and I want her to find the loving, trusting home that she deserves.

Daisy:

Hello folks, I'm Daisy - a rather sweet, worldly and wise Rottweiler at 1.5 years-old. I feel so fortunate for the good samaritans that brought me into MaxFund after rescuing me for a not-so-great home.  I even appreciate their new name they gave me - Daisy!  Has a nice ring to it, eh?  Daisy - like a romp through the Colorado wildflower fields in springtime.  Daisy - like "let's stop and smell the daisies"!  Daisy - as in a optimistic, loving young gal searching for the love and trust that I hear people can provide if they so choose.  Daisy - that's me!

As I'm not one to dwell on the past, let me tell you what I forsee in my future.  I see myself being welcomed into my new home with open arms and loving hearts.  In return, I will provide you with all the affection and admiration you could ever desire!  I forsee getting regular food to put some weight on these bones (I'm currently about 65ish lbs but could definitely stand to bulk up a bit to a more healthy-Rottie weight!)  I forsee regular walks (I'm great on a leash!)  I forsee more socialization with other friendly dogs so I can relax with all my 4-legged buddies.  I forsee learning about cats and kids to see if we could all live together in a big, happy family.

I forsee us all learning how to slow down together, appreciate each moment and take time to smell the Daisies!  If you have the same vision for 2011, please come visit MaxFund and ask for "Daisy"!

Bolt

Update: Bolt is in foster :)

Bolt bio

OPEN CASTING CALL for new furkid-parent!  Auditions ongoing here at MaxFund!

CASTING DIRECTOR: Me!  Bolt - a 2-year-old, exuberant boxer mix!   Like my namesake (from the 2008 Disney movie), I just might have superpowers (heehee!)  In my real life, though, I enjoy playing with other dogs, I love car rides and I'm oh-so-eager to please my people.  I know some basic obedience commands (I love to sit for treats!) and am housetrained.  I don't have experience with cats so would need to audition them before deciding if we could live together.  I must also mention that little kids tend to steal my Hollywood-spotlight so I'd prefer to not live with them. I'm a real *star* here at MaxFund so I promise to fulfill all your lovin' needs!

PREREQUISITES: Only friendly, sincere people with big, open hearts need audition for this special roll.  Do you have what it takes to be my leading human?!?  If you think so, please accept my invitation to this open casting call!  What an opportunity for us both!!

Boston

Hello, Colorado!  I'm Boston, a yellow lab who weighs in at about 70 lbs.  I'm an All-American guy currently accepting applications for a new Best Friend!  My previous family fell victim to these hard economic times and lost their home - but I'm so grateful that they brought me to MaxFund where I know I will be able to find new Best Friend (or entire Family of Friends!)  Some words my previous family used to describe me include "easygoing, friendly, obedient, playful, quiet and active."  Woah baby!  YOU may have just found the perfect Best Friend!

At 2-years young, I'm still a rather clownish guy - just look at my mid-shake jowls as captured in this picture!!  I am past puppy-hood and am housetrained, don't chew things (except yummy treats you give me!), and enjoy the company of other dogs *and* cats!  My previous family didn't have kids around so I'd appreciate a proper introduction before moving in with any little 2-legged ones!  I love to play fetch (especially at the dog park!).  I walk well on a leash and I even know basic obedience commands such as "sit" and "stay".

Are you on your way to visit yet?  Remember to ask for "Boston" - the All-American guy patiently waiting for YOU here in Denver, Colorado!

Amber

Update 1/21/11: Amber went home to her New Family!

This cutie was found running around with her collar (no tags) and a broken cable.  I assume she was tied up somewhere and managed to escape "Free Amber" style.  She's a total sweetie...

Got leash?

Well...let's put it to use then!  I'm Amber, a 2 year-old, 45lb female beagle mix who loooves going on walks!  When I see you, I'll do this little jump-around routine in my kennel in hopes that it's me you're coming to meet!  I was brought to MaxFund by a good samaritan after she found me running around with a collar and broken cable attached to me.  I didn't have any tags either.  She kept me for a few days (and I really enjoyed her kids!) and tried to find my owner but my owner never claimed me.  Lucky for me, she brought me to MaxFund for my second chance at life!!

I'm an excellent Canine Citizen as I know basic obedience commands already.  I'm good with other dogs, love to play and really enjoy going for walks.  I haven't met any cats recently so not sure how I would live with one - but I'm definitely willing to give it a shot!  Oh, and did I mention how darn cute my ears and smile are?  My smile tends to make you 2-legged people smile right back at me!

If you have a chance to come visit, I promise to show off my jump-around routine!  And, if you forget your leash, MaxFund says they'll lend you one.  Look forward to smiling at each other soon!!

Happy!

1/22/11 Update: Happy went Home shortly after I took/posted this blog!

Happy is a lil' dog and I didn't write his bio - although it's a fantastically wonderful description of this guy! We didn't have a good picture of him so I offered to take one over a weekend...

Attempt Day #1:
I first tried to capture Happy by myself. No can do. He wiggled all around and was a blur of white fur.  I then recruited another volunteer (and eventually needed a staff member too!) to tried and control this guy's excitement for a picture-perfect moment.  Still didn't get a good pic that day but knew I'd be back the following day..

Attempt Day #2:
I recruited a volunteer for help and she held Happy while I snapped some pics.  Again, we had difficulty with only capturing blurred white fur.  We finally decided that she should just hold his head so we could get a cute photograph of his face.  Here's what we ended up with:

Bwahahaha!  It seriously looks like we are strangling the lil' guy - but I promise we're not!  This pic still makes me "Happy"!

The wedding & a bruise

Generally, I believe winter weather in Denver is fabulous - some intermittent cold days interspersed amongst days that are very comfortable (at least to a midwesterner such as myself!)  We had a run of those cold days earlier this week.  When it's less than 33 degrees, the MF pups don't get walks - which makes complete sense.  On one of those days I went into each pup's crate to hand out some lovin'.  I ended up with quite a badge of honor on my leg...

.

Just an excited pup who hadn't been able to get her energy out and was *SOOOO* excited for some lovin'!  I'll consider it a fashion accessory with my shorter dresses over the wedding week!

Disclaimer...

As I mentioned in Kona's pre-bio paragraph, I debated about expressing some of my opinions on the blog.  But...that's what blogs are for I guess.  Again, I won't use any identifying information and I fully realize that some people who might stumble across this blog may very well disagree with me.  My point is definitely not to insult anyone...but to document my experiences at one small shelter who (I believe) makes a big difference!    Looking back at the pups on the blog makes me smile - and checking them off when they go home to their Forever Family is very satisfying.  I spend my days (and many nights) helping people in my profession - and I love my job.  But, sometimes I need to get my mind off of work and this blog is one small way I can help those 4-legged creatures that I'm so passionate about!  Also, I know that my bios are definitely not THE REASON that the dogs go home to their Families.  But I hope they're one small piece that can give internet-surfers a nudge to come in and meet the pup that catches their attention.  If I can  help connect ONE dog to his/her future Forever Family, then it's all worth it!

I decided to do pups that have been adopted in green font, available girls in pink font, and boys in blue font!

Also, I can blog while spending some quality, peaceful time with my own 4-legged creatures as they're snuggled up in front of the fire :o)

The photos

My photos on the blog are ones I took with my phone or camera (which I've brought a couple times).  The official MF photos are taken by a volunteer who is very talented.  She takes each dog outside and has an amazing ability to appreciate and capture each dog's personality.  Since I started volunteering at MF, I'm constantly amazed at all the volunteers who take time out of their busy lives to help these animals.  For myself, at least, the entire MF experience reinvigorates me!  Seeing the commitment of the staff, volunteers and the gratefulness of the dogs is what keeps me coming back.

Babs

2/5/11: Babs went home with her New Family!

Babs was brought in over New Year's weekend.  So, I tried to tie in the New Year with her bio.  She looks like she might have some dal in her (this is just my opinion...nothing in her chart says dal) so I'm a little drawn to her ;)

2011 is going to be my year!  Hello there - my name is Babs and I'm a 2 year-old, 55 lb Boxer/border collie mix.  In my short few years, I've never been fortunate enough to experience the stability, trust and comfort of a good family - but I just know that the tide will turn in 2011!  Here's what MaxFund does know about my history: I was in a very high kill shelter and was "rescued" by someone who had WAAAAY too many dogs in her home.  She had good intentions but wasn't able to care for us all.  Therefore, I moved to another shelter and was adopted by a family in the Fall of 2010.  Unfortunately, they didn't have time to care for me properly.  Lucky for me, they brought me to MaxFund where I am confident that I will be matched with MY Family!

I am a very, VERY cute pup - with my beautiful, sleek, black coat, white face and even some spots!  As I'm still a rather young gal, I really love to play - fetch, tug-of-war, toys...you name it and I love it!  I'm oh-so-grateful when people pay me any sort of attention and I can get REEEEALLY excited!  Although I know basic obedience commands ("sit" and "come" among them), I'll need some patience, guidance and training to learn how YOU expect me to behave (I've had so many mixed messages in my many "homes".)  I've lived with cats before and think they're just fine.  However, I'd probably prefer to be the only dog-type in your home - I've had my fill of living with other dogs in my short two-year life!  I've lived with older kids (as young as 9-years) and enjoyed their company - but MaxFund isn't aware if I've ever been around younger kids.  If you have younger kids around your family, MaxFund can help us all decide if we'd be a good match together!

I've met many 4-legged friends on my journey and have heard rumors that there are people out there who will welcome me into their home and family FOREVER!  I find this concept AMAZING and am committed to finding those SPECIAL people quickly!  Are you that person?  If you're in the neighborhood, I'd love to get to know each other on a walk.  I'll be oh-so-thankful for any visitors.  When I trot out of MaxFund into YOUR home, I wish more than anything that the match is FOREVER!  Cheers to 2011!

Sara

3/9/11 Update: Sara was adopted!  Yay!!!!!!

Sara...with a little Australian flavor!  And, one of my good friends (and bridesmaids) is named Sarah and lived in Australia for several years after college.  Perfect!

G'day, mate!  I'm Sara, a 5-year young 50lb Australian Cattle Dog mix.  My family brought me to MaxFund because I wasn't a good fit for their family.  I'm still trying to make sense of it all, but I'm an optimistic sheila (that's what they call us young gals in Australia!) and I'm actively searching for my Forever Family.

Australian Cattle Dogs are working dogs - we were born and bred to herd.  Because of this, I will probably flourish in an active home that has time to really appreciate just how intelligent and faithful I am.  Being active is especially important to me as I need to shed a few pounds in 2011!  Living with small children probably isn't a good idea for me as the lil' blokes don't seem to appreciate my special cattle dog talents.  I find this rather ironic as, in Australia, we often refer to children as ankle biters!  Oh well...I'll just have to find a family without any ankle biters on the loose!  I lived with cats my entire life and we got along just fine - it's no fun to herd anything that can simply jump out of my way.  Playing with dogs and people is fun - I especially enjoy playing "fetch" and playing with any stuffed toys.  I am housetrained and know basic obedience commands.  Seems that I'll just fit right into your home, eh?

I sure hope you can find the time to come visit with me.  I'm waiting!  Until then...Hooroo (that's slang for goodbye in Australia!)

Shilo

Update: Shilo went home with her new & improved Family!

I believe this sweetie may be going home to her real FOREVER family soon!  She was originally a stray but when MF contacted her owner, he said something to the effect of "ah....my new girlfriend doesn't like her so much so you can keep her."  She's having a tough time adjusting to shelter life so, hopefully, her stay is brief!!  She's such a lover and responds to pets and enjoys walks (which she needs more of!)

Hello!  My name is Shilo and I'm a 6-year-YOUNG, female Chow mix.  I was initially a stray who was brought to MaxFund and was thrilled when they found my microchip and located my previous owner.  Sadly, my family said that they didn't have time to take care of me and hoped that MaxFund would find me a better family.  I really miss the kids that I lived with (3 kids under the age of 5!), but I know that the perfect family is out there searching for me right now!

My previous owners really had nothing bad to say about me so I can't understand why they didn't come pick me up right away.   You might ask why I'll make the perfect four-legged family member?  Well...here goes...

Housebroken? Check.
Good with kids? Check.
Good with other dogs? Check.
Good with cats? Check.
Basic obedience? Check.
Good on a leash? Check.

As I've been rather neglected during my life, I've packed on a little extra weight (I'm currently 70lbs).  But, lucky for you, several studies (by the National Institutes of Health, nonetheless!) show that dog owners who regularly walk their dogs are more physically active, more mobile inside their homes, less likely to be obese, and experience less stress, anxiety and loneliness!  Research also shows that walking your dog helps contribute to positive, enjoyable social interactions!  Woah baby!  Looks like we'll both benefit by regular exercise in 2011!

I'm patiently waiting for a loving, faithful, attentive family in which I can relax and trust that they will always keep me safe, healthy and protected.  Not too shabby of a goal for 2011, eh?  I look forward to meeting YOU soon!
