Kona

3/9/11: Kona was adopted!  WootWoot!!

The relinquishing of this pup was, apparently, heartbreaking.  She'd been with her family for many years.  Unfortunately, they weren't able to take care of her and she made the mistake of chewing on some of the kids toys (new Xmas toys, maybe?)  She has some separation anxiety and the family didn't think she was worth investing the time and energy into helping her through this situation.  Wonder what they'll do when their teenagers are acting up in a decade or so?  Kona refused to walk back to the shelter so her owner picked her up and carried her back, placing her in the kennel.  I love her.

It makes me a bit nervous expressing my opinions so bluntly here on my blog.  But, I figure, it's my blog and I don't use any identifiers of people.  And, I'm sure there are circumstances that I'm not aware of.  But, I really believe that how people treat animals say a lot about who they REALLY are.  Ghandi's quote: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the ways its animals are treated" really resonates with me...

As winter has finally set in here in Colorado, you definitely need some Hawaiian warmth to keep you warm and cozy!  That's me, "Kona", a 5 year-young female German Shorthaired/Doberman mix.  My previous family relinquished me to MaxFund because they didn't have time to take care of me.  I'm pretty darn sad as I really miss the kids (children as young as 2 years who I absolutely adored) - but I just know that I'll find a fabulous Forever Family!  I'm adjusting to life here at MaxFund & I really appreciate all the staff and volunteers who are so friendly and welcoming.  My favorite thing to do these days is get out and explore the world.  I'm an inquisitive, excited girl and am very well-behaved on a leash.

Let me share why I'm such a fabulous gal.  I enjoy the company of other friendly dogs and even cats!  I also think car rides are fun.  Did I mention that I love LOVE the company of all people - even the little kiddos?  As I never received proper training, I'll need consistency and positive reinforcement while I adjust to fitting into your family.  But, I'm so very eager to please and want nothing more than to keep you happy.  I especially look forward to keeping my new family warm, cozy and full of Hawaiian lovin'!

I must admit that I've jumped on the New Year Resolution bandwagon - I need to walk (& play!) off a few of these extra pounds.  Maybe we can bond while getting out and about?!? When you arrive at MaxFund, please ask for the gal who can offer you a blast of Hawaiian warmth..."Kona"!  I promise to wag my entire body when I see you coming to visit me!

2/5/11 Update: Kona is a totally different dog than when she came in to MF! When she came in, she was rather overweight, anxious and timid. She's really come out of her shell and I hope she gets to go "home" soon!!  Here's an updated bio:

I'm a big hit here at MaxFund...everyone just loves me! In fact, I overheard someone saying that taking me out on a walk is "like a breath of fresh, spring air!" I think they said that because I have a beautifully, graceful stride, am very well-behaved on a leash and will even "sit" before we cross the street!

Let me share more reasons why I'm such a fabulous gal. I enjoy the company of other friendly dogs and even cats! I also think car rides are fun. Did I mention that I love LOVE the company of all people - even the little kiddos? And, I'm a good lookin' gal to boot...look at my floppy ears!

Are you looking for a 4-legged companion to keep your family warm, cozy and full of Hawaiian lovin'! Lucky for you, here I am!!! Please come visit - I promise to wag my entire body when I see you comin'!
